I am going to look at a 2002 Kubota B20 with a front end loader and a backhoe with 450 hours on it. Its being listed at $16,900. It looks pretty good cosmetically other than a ripped up seat. I am a total newbie to tractors and would like to know if this is too high since it is being sold through a used tractor dealer. Thanks

I'm not sure the B20 was still being made in '02? Is it a B21 maybe? Sounds a little high to me... I've seen a bunch of B21's (which replaced the B20) going for that or less.

I am pretty sure it is a B20 since that is actually marked on the tractor hood. So my guess is that the 2002 year is proabaly wrong. When did they stop making the B20? The backhoe unit is marked Kubota BT750 and looks like a well made unit.

Any words of caution for a person without much tractor experience?
Thanks again!

I think the last year for B20 was 1997 and B21 started in 1998. I might be off by a year.

$16,900 is too much for a B20. You could buy a B21 with 300 hours and a box blade for $16500. Check your local craiglists-lots of great deals out there.

As others has said, that is not a 2002 model. Your B20 could be 15 y or
more old. You can find the year by looking closely for the date stamp
on the wheels.

I sold my rebuilt B21/BT751/421 in 2008 for about $16500, with the factory
triple AUX valves. It was a 98 model, and prices were higher back then.

Thanks everybody for the great info. I guess I am still wondering how much the backhoe attachment adds to the value of the whole tractor. I know that as a new attachment the backhoe is expensive.
Thanks again.

Thanks again.

For my BX in 2004 the BH was somewhere around $5500 if memory serves...A B would probably be a little more.

On the new B26, which replaced the B21, the MSRP shows the backhoe adds a little over 8k to the price.

The last year for the B20 was 1998. $16,500 is about $4k high for a B20 but probably just about right for a B21 with the backhoe included. $12k is about all I would pay for the B20, maybe $500 higher if it is cherry. BTW, the B20 is a great machine. The Backhoe adds about $3,500 to the value.

Seems a little high too me. We recently sold a B21 with 300 hours for 17,500.00, which included a thumb and forks.

Everyone was close but the B20 was discontinued in 1996. The B21 replaced it in 97 with the biggest change being the flat operators deck and a little stronger hydraulics. I am not sure what the backhoe ran separately but it will only fit that tractor so there is not much of a market for them without the tractor. I looked at a B20 in 2000 for 13,500 as I recall. Ended up with a low hour B21 for 18,500 the same year. I would also wonder about only 450 hrs on a 14+ year old tractor.

$16,900 is way high! A B20 should be around $11K. Only thing to worry about is the BT750 hoe has an electronic "thingy" that fails often. There is a conversion kit if it does fail that will cost you $700.00 and takes about 4 hours to replace.

What electronic thingy is that? My BT751 had no electrical or electronic
anything on it.

Note that Kubota still lists the B21 in their current price list, despite being
replaced by the B26. It would not surprise me if the B20 was sold for
a year or two after the B21 was introduced.

I bought a b20 earlier this year for $9K. It needed the conversion for the backhoe, and has a few slow leaks, but for the price it was a steal. There were many b750 and b751's sold with an electronic over hydraulic swing control. Push the button and the bucket returns to the same place every time. STUPID IDEA in my book. You can buy the conversion kit, if you do ignore most of the instructions as they are a waste of time. The conversion takes about 4 to 5 hours and when it's done you have a really powerful side to side control. I really like my B-20 and if I had more $ I would have gone for a 21 or an L series, but it gets the job done every day.

I am considering buying a 1993 B20 from a mechanic who was formerly the service manager at a Kubota dealership. This one has about 740 hours on it, includes the backhoe, front end loader, and a gannon. He's asking $8,500 and says most of this vintage go between $9,000 and $11,000. To buy a new B series with the backhoe goes well over $20,000. (But they do range from the B2320@23hp to the B3220@32hp.)

I would grab that @ $8500
