I've been looking into the bx22, but am concerned that it might not have the weight and power to handle some of the jobs I've got lined up, including some riprap work, trenching in rocky soil, stump removal, etc. I can't afford a larger tractor, fel, backhoe new, so...

as a possible alternative, I recently found a used 1999 b2150 nearby with a LA 350 fel, top and till and 60" gearmor box scraper. Tractor has 290 hrs and it runs well, but has been kept outside for every one of those hours, so they show. before I look any closer...

any advice about what likely problems might arise from being outside all the time? I was told to check the hydolic fluid for water, but are there other things I should be checking?

also, I understand that the b2150 can take a 4672/4690 backhoe. True? Is it a sub-frame mount?? does this require some aftermarket kit? are these backhoes hard to find used?

what about the b2150 in general? what is the most comparable model currently in production? is it a bad idea to buy a tractor that's no longer made (for parting, etc.)??

Finally, owner is asking $12K and says she spent $16.5K new. sound reasonable?

Thanks in advance for your input!

I have a B2150 myself. Is this one gear drive or hydro? Mine's gear drive. It also has an LA350 FEL and came with a Farm King 5' finish mower. It had 630 hrs and I paid $8K for the whole setup. I did know the seller and he needed to sell quick, so I think I got a real good deal. $10-$12K is about right for what you describe.

I'd say that the B2150 would be better than the BX for what you want to do. If you do get the backhoe, I'd get a subframe mounted one. There are horror stories out there about people tearing a tractor up with a 3PH backhoe. There's a lister here named "Alex" (I think) from across the big pond in the UK who has a B2150 with a backhoe. Maybe he'll chime in.

Parts? I would not worry about getting parts. Filters are available. In fact, I use a Delco oil filter on mine from AutoZone. Other than engine and hydraulic oil/filter changes, my B2150 has only needed a fan belt (AutoZone also). Very reliable so far. It's up to 800 hrs now with no problems.

Now, you say this B2150 has top 'n tilt? I'd REALLY like to see pics of that setup. There is at least one other lister who has a B2150 and would like to install a hydraulic top link. We kinda need to know how this is plumbed. We believe that the pressure hose is plumbed into a special cover on 3PH valve. Other than that, we don't know how to accomplish that.

Mariner,
I also own a b2150 and my somewhat biased opinion is that it is the best of the small tractors. Its short wheelbase, wide track, and traditional style (not flat deck) make it very stable and manuverable. The 4 cylinder engine is smooth and powerful. In the current range of Kubotas it would fit between the b2710 and the b2410.
I'm not sure the model number of the kubota backhoe but there are also many aftermarket backhoes that will go on the machine.
Sitting outside will probably have caused the cruise control to have siezed or tightened, but some wd40 should take care of it.
The price seems right, I have seen many older, higher hour 2150's with an asking price similar or slightly higher.
Good luck and let us know how you make out.

thanks for the input. i'm glad NOT to hear that there are major issues with it being outside, although I think I'll still try to find someone to give it a once over, as I'm definitely no diesel machanic myself.

as for the top and tilt kit, all I know is that it's a "2K" system, which means (as I understand it) that there are only two actuators/valves; one on a side link and on on the center link. I think your question is about how these valves are plumbed into the tractor hydrolics, however, and that I can't answer but will look into it and let you know what I find. And about what shakes out with the tractor itself, of course.

Cheers,

Mariner,

Did you ever buy the B2150? I'm looking at one with a similar set up.
