Buying Advice B2601 questions and availability

Just saw a b2601 on the dealers lot in Carver, MA. Just the machine, no implements. Parked right next to a B2650 with a loader and quick attach bucket. B2650 also has a Curtis cab. Kinda different but I like the idea of taking the cab off in summer though I have never taken my BX 2200 Curtis cab off in the summer. Looks like the 2650 cab would come off easier.

Was it a Curtis cab on the B2650, or the Kubota factory cab?

Yeah that would seem weird to put a Curtis cab on a new model tractor that has a factory cab option.

Yah, the B2650 had the Curtis cab. With the two side by side looks like the B2650 is bigger but not by much. Could be a deceptive. The 2650 had the loader on and the 2601 was just the machine.

Interesting. I saw a B2620 (same size as B2601) parked between a BX2370 and a B3350. I thought that the small frame B "looked" in size to the BX than it is to the larger frame B. None of them had cabs.

The B2650/3350 is the same size as the old B3200. So they are noticeably bigger than the B2601/2620 machines, but not a massive difference like comparing a B to an L.

Just from a quick look at the spec sheet, it looks like the Max26 is a bit bigger than the B2601. It a little bigger, heavier, more capable by the numbers. More comparable to the B2650 maybe..?

The Max is slightly smaller than the B, and has smaller tires -- basing this on side by side comparisons of my old B and my neighbor's Max 28. However the Max is heavier and has higher lifting capacity "on paper". In the real world, our experience has been that it's still a sub-compact/compact tractor. Yes, on paper it could theoretically out-lift my L3200. In reality that is not feasible without a lot of careful ballasting. So take the loader specs with a grain of salt.

I hadn't even looked at tire size..but then again I don't fully understand tire sizing. The b2601 lists 7.5-12 in the front 11.2-16 in the rear. The Mahindra Max26 lists 7.5-12 in the front and 9.5-16 in the rear, I think that turns into about a 3" difference in the diameter on the rears?

The Max26 is listed at 109.3 long and 54.3 wide, The B2601 is listed at 94.9 (w/o 3pt hitch) and 49" wide. Not sure if the Mahindra number is with or without the 3pt hitch.


Seem like the Max26 is a bit larger than the B2601. I don't see a ground clearance number for the Mahindra, and I have found that height really makes a tractor look big to me. So if the kubota sits a bit taller, than could explain it.


I've also heard it said that the B series Kubota is very light for its capacities, traction and ballast are concerns to use them to full capacity. I can see that being a problem with the Mahindras as well.
