And, if so, do you do this? Because I would think that, if one were, perhaps, in rougher terrain, the hitch could get damaged, if it were left in place?

Yes... The lift arms stay on with the woods frame mounted backhoe which makes the process easier to switch to other attachments. You just want to be sure you don't accidentally raise the hitch or you could risk damaging the swing pistons on the backhoe attachments....

I've been running this set up for two years in very rough terrain ... No issues.
