Hello all !

This is my first post ...... but I've been lurking for awhile.

About to take the plunge I think - found a dealer that I like - they are not close (130 miles) but they seem genuinely interested - after contacting the two closest dealers for quotes ... who both didn't really seem to care if they sold me a tractor or not. I also talked to another dealer who was a little closer but he had no inventory.

This dealer I like spent over an hour on the phone talking to me (after his closing time) a few days ago discussing what my needs were and the pro and cons of various models (B7610, B7800, B2910) Today the wife and I drove up there and this guy and his wife spent another 2 1/2 hours (again, after closing) with us while we scoped out units and drove them around. Took a bit of prodding to get my little wife up on the (big) B2910, but once she got up there and cruised around a bit she stopped ... and wanted to know how to set it in Hi range (not fast enough for her in Mid - what a crack up !) ... I can see already I'm gonna have a problem ....

Anyways we all had a good time I think.

The following is the quote I got:

B2910, 72 MMM, LA402FL-1 FEL with 60" QuickAttach Bucket - 19,400
(with either R-4's or Turfs - I can't decide which at this point)
Quick Attach Coupler for the FEL - 185 (his cost ?)
Woods GB60 Box Blade - 575
FEL Bucket Modifications - 275

The FEL bucket mods are a front and back wear plates (running side to side) welded to the bottom of the bucket. Also about 5 or 6 or 7 wear plates (running front to back) welded to the bottom of the bucket, from side to side. Plus deflector welded to the top of the bucket to keep the load from dumping on the hood in case I forget and roll the bucket back while it's fully elevated. Also a custom bucket level indicator that he does (rod in a tube - works pretty slick and is easier to see than 'bota's stock one) I suspect that he will squirt it all orange once he's done the mods - he just seems like that kind of a guy.

From what I recall his price seems to have dropped a little (about $460 I think) from the first time I talked with him about the B2910. The price on the Woods box blade is probably full list I'd guess.

Part of the deal will be that I will have to pick the unit up myself - he won't deliver it. I can't really blame him in way - it's not a huge dealership - him, his wife, the parts guy plus whoever he has working in service I guess ... he appears to be really stretched for time, plus price of gas being what is is currently (260 mile round trip), etc. Trouble is, I have no trailer nor a truck to pull it home with - so I'll have to come up with a solution for that, which shouldn't be a big problem. Anyways getting it here will cost me something - gas both ways if nothing else.

So we're driving home and the wife asks:

'So - you're not just compromising on this are you ? Is it going to be big enough to do what you need it to do ?'

'........ Er .. uhm ....hon, maybe we should go back and look at the Grand L's ..... you know - the one with the cab ....'

So anyways, how does the quote seem ?

Welcome To TBN. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have owned a B2910 for 4 years. It has been a great tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Your price quote for the tractor and FEL is about $500 off list.

North East OH. may have higher prices than in Southeastern Michigan.

Here is a site that gives prices for all B series Kubota’s put together by a fellow TBNer.

Ron,

Thanks for the welcome and the pointer to the site with the prices.

Using the site you referenced in tyour post, I see a list price of $22,926 for the tractor, 72 MMM, and 402 FEL.

My quote for just those items (not counting the other stuff) was $19,400 - apparently a 'good' but not 'great' price - but more like $3500 off list for just the tractor, 72 MMM, and FEL.

....... so I guess it's a reasonable deal, at least going by that site ....

This was the dealer that we spoke about previously.

Dealers work with companies that ship tractors. Right now it's going for about $1.50 a mile. So that would only cost you about $200. If they won't deliver it, they won't be able to come out and service it or pick it up for service. Give that some thought.

Sounds like a decent, not great, price to me and pretty darned good customer service, so far.

One thing did jump out at me though. The bucket mods you mention may prevent you from attaching a toothbar in the future. And unless you are a commercial user, I don't think the extra wear plates will be necessary. The deflector sounds like a reasonably useful addition.

I paid $16,500 for my 2910 with a generic boxblade in 2001. Wish I'd had the option of a quicktach bucket. You are wise to go that route.

Mark - I'll ask about the shipping - there may be someone he can refer me to locally that would be cheaper than me running up there and back to pick it up.

On the service aspect of it, that's a good point - one I hadn't fully considered. I guess that I'm expecting any Kubota dealer in the area to be willing to service and perform warranty work on (non-gray market) Kubota equipment - although I wouldn't necessarily expect them to come out and pick it up for service for free, particularly if they didn't sell the tractor originally. I suppose if something goes wrong under warranty they ought to pick up it for service and I that I shouldn't have to pay for it.

As far as normal routine maintainence work goes, I pretty much plan to do that myself - have a small shop in the equipment shed and have been doing most of the service work on a variety of equipment here (IH 444, various mowers, etc. - even rebuilt an IH diesel in an old Ford cube van I had) The biggest concern would be if something major goes wrong under warranty.

I can't imagine that a dealer would turn away either reimbursable warranty work or paying service work - just because I didn't buy the tractor there - it's not how I would run my business. Nevertheless the issue is certainly a valid one and I appreciate you raising it and getting me to look at it.

Fish - I wish I actually lived closer to this dealer, because I'm fairly certain that this guy really goes out of his way to take care of customers.

There was a local customer that came in for a part while the wife and I were there .... it was probably ten or fifteen minutes past closing time ... the dealer just got him what he needed (looked like a o-ring or retaining clip ... I wasn't paying real close attention) and sent the guy on his way, no problem. And thanks for the input on the pricing.

ronjhall - Yeah - I got a little nervous after your post <grin>

I started rechecking everything - thought maybe I had something wrong on the numbers here.

Thanks Ronjhall. Don't know how I missed that the first time. I'll have to check it out when I get a little extra $

rswyan,

I've had a B2910 for almost 4 years. One of the best investments I ever made. Hearing these prices, I'm glad I bought mine 4 years ago and it's already paid off. It seems like I got a real bargain. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Of course, interest rates are a bit lower now, too, so that compensates a bit.

( I suppose if something goes wrong under warranty they ought to pick up it for service and I that I shouldn't have to pay for it. )

I would check on this. I thought the warranty only covered the actual pars and labor of the repair, not transportation to and from the repair facility. Also, there have been some posts here about "the closer dealers" being very reluctant to service tractors purchased elsewhere. I would think that if you didn't get a "wam fuzzy feeling" from them before the sale, I doubt that will improve if you buy elsewhere.

If you're reasonably handy, you'll be able to do the normal routine maintenance yourself. However, if you will need a lot of "dealer attention" for repairs, you might try to renegotiate with a closer dealer. Or...heaven forbid...look at a different color from a local dealer. (I can't believe I said that! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif)

Anyway, your tractor most likely won't require too much warranty work, mine didn't and I think others will concur, so it might not be a huge point. Just get all the details before you sign on the line.

Good Luck,

~Rick

Fish - Thanks for pointing out the potential issue with the bucket mods and a toothbar. A toothbar is on the immediate horizon and I have an email into Allen Markham about this since he uses a similar thing on the skidsteer buckets that he builds. Worst case it that I may have to spec or fab my own toothbar to fit this specific bucket. I figured the wear plates would not be a bad thing because I intend on using the bucket to clear snow on our driveway (which is probably 1400 foot long) The driveway is partially paved now and will eventually be fully paved.

Rick,

( I would think that if you didn't get a "wam fuzzy feeling" from them before the sale, I doubt that will improve if you buy elsewhere. )

Probably quite true - on the otherhand, they will really have no idea who I bought from, whether I bought used, or whatever. If I have a problem I will just vote with my feet and go elsewhere (and make sure to let Kubota know that I did)

( If you're reasonably handy, you'll be able to do the normal routine maintenance yourself. )

I am ..... in fact to some event I'd prefer to do much of it myself as that way I know it's right (or at least know who to look to if it isn't /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif)

And I will talk with the dealer about the warranty/maintenance/who's going to do the service issues before I sign.

One other question for any of you B2910 owners out there - Does the B2910 come 'standard' with rear hydraulic outlets ?

When I first talked to this dealer he was thinking that they were optional. Reading Kubota's literature, it appears to me that they come standard. Am I mis-reading something ?

B2910’s have a Hydraulic Outlet that a valve could be piped into. Some TBNer’s have valves for their Top and Tilt hooked up using this outlet.

Here is a thread that mentions the outlet.

Ron & Mad,

Thanks guys - ok, I think I get it now - basically the B2910 has a rear hydraulic outlet but it is covered by a blocking plate. To really use rear hydraulics one needs to pickup the appropriate cover plate (from Kubota) that provides outlet holes and then plumb in the necessary lines, valves, and couplers.

 / B2910 Quote #18
You are right, but it is not a plate. It's actually 2 metal blocks with tubing in between to allow for existing linkage. The block is part A in the picture. The kit part number is 6C040-95100.

Fish - You were correct - I just emailed with Markham Welding and they said that their toothbar would not fit due to the bucket mods. I don't know whether this was because it couldn't be done - or that they didn't have the correct dimensions (and had no easy way to get them) Seems kinda odd - given that their own buckets use a similar type of setup.

If anybody would care to post a couple of photos of how their toothbars fit to the bucket edge (top and bottom) I'd really appreciate it.

rswyan ... since you are already travelling somewhat, dealer shopping, I would check out Lashley's down near Seneca Lake (SE of Cambridge). They also have a store on the north side of Zanesville. When I was Kubota shopping, these guys couldn't be beat! Best prices, great service and they delivered to just about anywhere. My second choice for the purchase would have been Umkeffer's in Minerva / Massillon (probably a little closer to you). Good luck and have fun shopping around.
