B3200 Starting Hard

I have a question regarding my new Kubota B3200 with 24 hours on the clock. It starts kind of hard. I kept it in a heated garage all winter and fought this. It wasn't a cold problem. Even now at 45 degrees outside it skips and sputters when I start it for the first 30 seconds or so. I had a 2005 BX2230 and that started like a car, after engaging the glow plugs for a count of 10 or so. With this new tractor I have been trying to find the "happy spot" of using the glow plugs, have gone from a count of 10, 20 to 30. No change.

Just wondering if anybody has had a similar problem with the B3200, or has any ideas? Just to clarify, it has always started, just with some difficulty. I am not new to tractors. Something is just not quite right.

I use 10 seconds on mine if 45 or more, if under I do 10 sec, let off for 5 seconds then again for 8 seconds.

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately I don't believe there is a combination of glow plug engagement that will solve this. I have experimented with all of that. There has to be more to it.

my b7800 is starting hard like yours, but mine has almost 900 hours on it=engine valve adjustment time. i doubt that is your problem. might be the glow plug system isn't working if longer times make no difference. i was talking to my dealer about setting a time up to do my valve adj and he asked if it was starting hard. i told him my story, simular to yours, and he said it might also be the glow plugs and or relay. they would check it out when i took it in to them.

both engines are v-1505. mine will start everytime, but if it gets 45*f or lower it sputters, smokes and just starts hard.

i will, but don't expect a fast reply as i use mine in my business and too busy now to part with it so not taking mine to the dealer for around another month or so.

It will probably get a little better as you get more hours on it. My B3200 is the same way, part of it is just the nature of an indirect-injection engine. I preheat for about 10sec the first time I start it if the temp is about about 50*. Below that I give it a little more time, no more than 30sec though (that was when the temp was -10*)

10-15 seconds of GP for mine and it fires right up with only a little sputter and only that if it is under 50*. I would get the timing checked. Sounds more like a timing problem unless of course the glow plugs are not working but then I doubt it would start at all.

A little sputter and hard start for about 15 sec and then all good here. Mine has about 45 hours and has been that way since day one. I have been told that is "sort of normal" for that tractor. Doesn't interfere with normal operation and it's only the first start.

I didn't get a block heater at the urging of the dealer. He said "these new tractors start just like a car". My 2005 did, not this one.

Believe me, they don't. I had a Block heater in my BX2360, it didn't start like a charm. Even in 55 degree weather.

my b7800 with v1505 engine (same as b3200, yours just modified a bit) has always started fine for me until last fall. had it for 5 years and has 860+ hours on it now. at 800 hours it is time for engine valve adj. probably is my problem. might also be glow plugs/relay. until last fall it started great, 5 sec. glow plug for first start at temps above 50*f, 10 sec glow plug for first start at temps 32*f-50*f, 15 sec glow plug for first start at temps below 32*f. mine would always start hard (very much like it is now) at temps below 15*f. i would glow plug for a little longer then 15 secs. soon i started pre warming engine using an electric space heater i put on the lower rad hose side of engine on block of wood about 6" away from the engine. let it warm up for about 2 hours and it would start like it was just shut off on a hot summer day. it will still start nice for me if i warm it up first like that, but now i was warming it up at temps above 32*f to have it start like that. not like it use to be. first thing my dealer asked me when i told them i want to get it in to do the 800 hour engine valve adj, was "is it starting hard in the cold?"

my b7800 is starting hard, sputtering, smoking for about 5-10 seconds after first start of day, but any start after it has been run a bit, it starts fine. even if outside temp is 40*f, it will start hard first start of day. now i have noticed if i leave the glow plugs on for 20 seconds, it "seems" to start a little easier then if i just do it for 5-8 seconds. i have checked all my fuses and they are ok, no fuse for glow plugs on mine. all wiring looks ok too.

i wish i could get mine to the dealer so we could see if mine is the valve adj or glow plugs/relay, because our problems seem simular. don't think your valves need adj so early, but maybe something like that. i don't plan on getting it there for about another month or so. too busy with it now. still runs great after it quits sputtering. dealer also told me that it is best to do this engine valve adj when the outside temps are warmer out and after the tractor has sat all night in those somewhat warmer temps. so that is another reason i wait. let you know as soon as i can, but you will probably get yours fixed by that time, so let us know what you find out.

Today its about 35 degrees out and tried my B3200. Heated glow plugs for about 15 seconds and it started hard, sputtered and lots of smoke. it has only 1.8 hours on it so its new, wonder if I have this issue also. Dealer has to pick up to put BH on when it comes in so I will mention it to him and see what they say.

I have a B3200 and I don't have any problems getting it to start even at temps down around 0 F. I had the dealer put a block heater in it when I bought it but I can honestly say that I have never plugged it in for 2 winters. It is not kept in a heated garage. I keep it outside (under a carport on the side of the shop so that the snow doesn't want to stick to it).

heck if it is above Freezing it will fire up with no time on the glow plugs. I run #2 off-road diesel with a shot of Power Sevice (white botttle) in it and Rotella T6 Synthetic Oil.

just checking back in. got my b7800 back with the adj valves, but won't know if it starts easier first cold start until get a cold morning and none in sight for a while. as for you, how have you made out with your b3200 starting hard? was it injector pump timing?
