The joy of buying an inexpensive diesel engine may just be replacement of the one you have plus the added cost of the adapter plate which will likely have to be built from scratch.:D

Anyone know what the adjustment is for the valves? I am going to take the head off Saturday and see if I can find the knock. The lifters are a bit noisy, they look to have about a 1/16" gap in them now, I want to adjust them but don't want to over tighten them.

Tappet gap should be done with engine cold and cylinder at TDC on compression stroke. Gap is .006 to .008

I got the head off tonight and it looks like the front cylinder has a bad wrist pin. The other 2 seem fine, hoping I can get away with fixing just the wrist pin and maybe a set of rings. I don't want to dump too much money in this engine, it has too many hours on it I think.

Any tips, suggestions, ideas?

Yes, I sure do. We are in the process of selling our house, will have to be out no later than March 30th, so I don't really want to get into a lengthy rebuild. That and the engine has over 7500 hours on it, I can get a used engine with around 2500 hours on it for $800.00.

I am going to check prices on main and rod bearings, rings, gaskets, 1 new piston and rod bearing and see how much it is. If its too much I'll just run it till it dies and get that used engine for $800.00.
