Kubota B2410HSD
Took my first trip to a couple of dealers yesterday - one Kubota and one NH. With help from these forums I've narrowed my list down to the Kubota B7500 and NH TC21D (with the JD 4100 and Kubota B2410 as outside shots). I live in CT, but both dealers I went to are in MA.

For the B7500HSD with a 54" mid-mount mower, LA302 loader, and turf tires, the quote was $15,000 even (tax not included). From looking at past posts, this price seems competitive if not the lowest. My first impression of the dealer was pretty good - if anyone in the area is looking for a Kubota and wants to hear more, please send me an email.

I was wondering why you didn't check out the Kubota dealerships in CT.

I live very close to the MA border, so it just happened that the first two closest dealers for me were in MA. I don't necessarily have anything against the CT dealers and I plan to check them out too.

What dealers did you look at in MA?

I went to Leahy Equipment in Holyoke. As I had said, this was the first dealer I had spoken to and I picked up some good information. I showed up at the same time as a guy who was there looking at a B7300 with about 600 hours on it.

While the three of us were talking I mentioned something about ther being a Kubota dealer that sells equipment on-line, and the dealer said "I bet you were on tractorbynet.com". No big deal I guess, but I was kind of impressed that he knew about the site since it seems like most dealers don't even bother having any Internet presence.

Hi Wheeldog,

I know you didn't ask for this, but if you have not purchased your unit yet you may want to shop in tax-free New Hampshire. It is a couple of hours additional drive from Ct., but it may be worth it. At Chappell tractor, just over the border from Mass., a b7500hsd with mid-54" mower, bar-turf tires, (which supposedly are a $100 upgrade from the straight turfs), and 302 loader is $15,200. This includes loading the rear tires with CaCl2.

In the end, I ended up with the 60" mower, and a 72" tilting grader blade too, for $15,800. Having lived in Mass. up until last summer, it was nice not to pay the extra $790 in tax /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif .

In any case, it is a great tractor! Good luck.

Yep that true for now "No Sale Tax" /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
But its just a matter of time, maybe this coming year a sale tax. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Like the motto on the lic plates say in New Hampshire. "Live Free or Die"
Maybe they should have a new motto,Pay Taxes and Die. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

apcaruso and Thomas,

Thanks for the advice - I'm probably still a month or so from buying, so it's definitely something I'll consider. Are you pretty sure that the NH dealers do not charge sales tax, even if they deliver out of state? I was surprised to hear from the dealer that I did speak to that if they deliver the equipment in CT, then they collect CT sales tax (6% v. 5% for MA). A CYA type of thing, I guess.

Call them and ask. Dave Gage is the sales guy. 603-673-2640.

I've only bought from them living in NH (just down the road)

Wheeldog,
I know of a New Holland dealer in Vermont who has deliver to New Hampshire and the sales taxs wasn't added on. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Than there a Kubota dealer who doesn't add tax {if he knows you well /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif} if he should deliver outside of New Hampshire..thats if its not to far.

My view is these dealer are not out only to sell tractors, but to keep the costumer coming back also spread the word. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

You said your about a month away from a purchasing a tractor, now thats what I call a christmas present. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Stay safe and have fun shopping for your tractor. /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

From experience, if you buy a product in New Hampshire, and have it delivered directly by the SELLER to Massachusetts, Massachusetts requires the buyer to pay the 5% Mass. tax. However, if you pick up the merchandise and transport it yourself paying the tax is not necessary.

If you cannot pick up the unit yourself, you may be able to get around this, though. When I had my tractor delivered from Chappel in mid-September, they had a local delivery company actually transport the unit. I now live in NH, so tax was not an issue anyway, but my point is that since the transport company was not the seller of the unit, you may be able to get around paying the tax. I don't know if this will work, but maybe...

Good luck.

Wheeldog,

Since you brought up the TC21D, as the owner of the similar but smaller TC18 I'll add my $10,000 worth...much more reliable than 2 cents! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

If you have a chance to compare these two units side by side, the B7500 and the TC21D, I think you'll notice that the TC21D is a much better/stronger built unit and roomier in the driver's seat/area. I had the opportunity to see a B7500 this summer up close at the county fair and was much surprised how "tight" the driver's area is compared to the roomier TC18. When looking at the rear end, the TC is much beefier looking, lift arms are larger/stronger etc.

I've owned my TC18 for almost a year and a half now and would buy it again (with power steering this time) in a heartbeat. Don't sell yourself short...go look more closely at the TC21D. /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

Hey JimBinMI,

Wow - nobody carries the New Holland flag like you do. I'm glad that you are very happy with your machine. And don't worry - the TC21 is very much in the running (see post in the NH pricing section).

Check out loader lift, 3 pt lift, tire size, ground clearance and price. I guarantee you you will not buy the TC18 or TC21. A N.H. dealer can not deliver the unit to you without charging you sales tax, however you can get around this by picking it up yourself or have a third party,(contracted by you, not the dealer)pick up the tractor.

Granger,

I'm not so sure about that, but maybe I've got some of the numbers wrong:

Loader cap.: B2410(770#),B7500(660#),TC21(600#)
Loader breakout: TC21(1400#),B2410(1336#),B7500(1120#)
3-pt. lift, 24" aft: B2410(1300#),TC21(1265#),B7500(1058#)
Tire size: Same size R4 tires used on TC21/B7500, B2410?
Ground clearance: B2410(12.8"),B7500(12.0"),TC21(10.2")
Prices: B2410(most expensive) - B7500 (least expensive)

It seems to me that they fall pretty well into line with features v. price. Right or wrong, my impression right now is that the New Holland's strong points include some extra creature comforts and refinements and the Kubota's strong point is reliability. Bottom line is that I at least want to drive both brands to see if any real preference develops.

Wheeldog,

Find a dealer that sells both makes; it will make your decision easier. Chappel in New Hampshire deals with both Kubota and New Holland, and I beleive they are the northern New England distribution site for New Holland ( they have a HUGE inventory of NH). (BTW, the service was great at Chappel, but I am not an advocate of any dealer in particular.)

I was open to green, orange and blue when I started my search for a compact tractor. I visited many dealers and then narrowed down to orange and blue because I was not treated well at the only green dealer local to me. I test drove the entire B and TC lines, all of which were very nice. When I pressed the dealer for his recommendation, his opinion was that regarding 'compact' tractors, Kubota clearly has the most experience and their units are the most refined. I ended up with the b7500 because that is what fit my needs. I'll admit, I really liked the b2710 and TC25, but both were just physically too big for my situation.

It is difficult to compare statistics from different manufacturers because frequently they are measuring differently. (i.e tractor weight: is that with or without the driver, with or without fuel ....) There have been prior posts on this subject, but I am not sure if steering would even be possible if lifting 1,200 lbs at the 3Pt of a b2400, TC21 or B7500. In addition, is there an implement even half that weight that any of these tractors could realistically use?

Lastly, regarding the lighter 3 pt on the Kubota versus the NH; this is a testament to good design and engineering! The important thing is that the unit can handle the load for which it is rated and will be imposed on it.

In the end, though, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the three; green, blue or orange.

Best,

AC

If you have the time, it's best to take a look at all of the tractors in various colors in the size/hp range you are considering. Like you have noticed, they all have certain features that make them a bit different than a competitor's model. The only way to really make the best decision for you is to get on each of the tractors, drive them, use the front loader and all of the controls, and generally see how it turns, feels, stops, starts and generally fits YOU. One dealer I know asks folks to just go sit on the tractor for as long as they want to make sure they're comfortable in the seat and like the controls layout on the tractor. You might even be able to get a dealer to drop one off for you to demo on your place. That's the best way to see what you like and don't like.

JimBinMI expounds the virtues of New Holland and many of us are faithful to our Kubotas. It's still a real personal decision as to which machine is best for YOU. From my point of view, specs is specs. If they're close, and they appear to be on the tractors you've noted in one of your posts, go for the one YOU like the best. They're all good and will serve you well for many moons.
