JUDE,
I BOUGHT MY 2710 FROM ROBERT WOLFF IN WOODBURY, CT.
TEL. 203.266.4845 HE WAS SLIGHTLY LESS THAN CARVER FOR THE SAME EQUIPMENT. I WOULD BUY FROM HIM AGAIN ANYTIME.

I bought my 2710 last November. I got the LA 401 FEL with 60" bucket and ag tires. Had to pay $14,850 for the package. I was lucky I got by not having to pay MN sales tax by claiming AG use.

Strongly suggest looking at the 72" deck, vs. the 60". Major difference in robustness and ease of mounting (look for my post on details between the 2). As I remember the price difference wasn't that much. Agree, you will need a push mower--but you'll be surprised how close the 2710 (with a 72") can cut tight spots and corners. Good luck.

Morning! I could not find your post but I think the 72" is really bigger than I need. I only have 1-2 acres of finish mowing. Also, my potential dealer sort of urged me away from the 72" based mostly on weight. Seemed to imply it was a hand full when time to remove or put on due to it's significant weight increase over the 60". Can you give me more of a pointer where I can find your post?

GlueGuy- Sorry but I meant to thank you for the T & T kit explanation. Thank you!

Now gang... I guess the priceing issue around here is really starting to bug me. Up to now I have not haggled about price. This area is heavily into farming and I can easily imagine that it is standard practice, at least when dealing with farmers, to haggle back and forth. This is something I don't like or do well but it may be the norm and I've just been slow to see it. So far, no one has reported paying nearly as much for their tractors as the quotes I've got. I did get a price from Carver and it is MUCH better. Somewhere on the CTB site I've read that 15% off of list prices is a good deal and 20% off is a great deal. I'd appreciate hearing from buyers how they came to settle on a price and how they feel about the idea of paying 15% less than list. I'd like to make this offer this weekend and I'm just about ready to walk away permanently from this dealer if we can't agree on a fairer price. If I were to pay way too much for this package from any area dealer it would seem to negate most of the positives of buying local and developing a lasting relationship. Everytime I'd want to buy something I'd feel like they see their "cash cow" walking in the door!

Once Again Thanks Everyone!
Dave

DaveM, I guess there are many different ways of negotiating prices. Some tell one dealer about the lower offer they've gotten elsewhere (truthfully or otherwise), some make a counter offer to what the dealer quotes, some go with the price the dealer quotes, but try to get the dealer to include things like the 50 hour service, discounts on implements, etc. I guess you're only limited by your imagination. Personally, when I bought my first Kubota, I visited 4 dealers within 75 miles of home, trying to decide just what I wanted. When I finally decided on exactly what I wanted, I called each of those four and simply asked, "What's the best deal you can make on this." I didn't tell any of them I was calling other dealers; I didn't tell any of them what the others quoted. I just bought from the one who offered the best deal. And when I bought my second Kubota, I just went back to the same dealer and asked for the price on the tractor without trade-in and how much trade-in he'd give me. He offered a better deal than I expected and I took it.

Bird- Thanks so much your reply. I realize alot of my anxiety is just a part of my personality and with time it's beginning to subside. My very level headed wife will be with me tomorrow when we look at the tractor and we'll just see how it goes. I'll try to trust my first impression of the dealer and see if we can work something out.

Could anyone point me to M. Sullivans post(s) about the 72" vs. 60" mowers? I've tried searching quite a few different ways and still can't find anything.

Thanks- Dave

Re: B7500 v. B2410 v. B2710/Belly Mower Post

Welcome Dave. If you want to "pretty up" a post with a link use the markup tags listed in the FAQ section. There are two versions: One will make the url clickable but still not look too great with long urls. The other (uses an = sign) let's you rename the clickable link. It ends up looking like this: <A HREF="http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin/compact/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=owning&Number=2267&page=&view=&sb=&vc=1
" target="_new">Your Link</A>

Be sure to use the preview to avoid embarrassment and ask plenty of questions if you can't get it to work. Some of us (like ME) aren't getting enough tractor time due to the weather and we love handling these technical problems /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: B7500 v. B2410 v. B2710/Belly Mower Post

The only snow we got here this year was while I was in Colorado on a ski vacation. Not enough to use the tractor on.

I bet you guys don't have gravel drives up there. Seems like it would be hard to plow the snow off of it.

In May of 99 I paid $19,000 for my 2710 with R4 tires, loader, Rhino 60" finish mower, Rhino 60" cutter, and box blade. I think Bird got a better deal. Right now I wish I had also gotten a tiller, as the $$ for one right now seems hard to come by.

As for the "light material" bucket, maybe because the 60" holds more, there is the possibility that filling it with lead would exceed the capacity of the FEL.

Fred -

Thanks for the info! Mr. Wolff is right "down there" in price. I was also impressed with his attitude and offer to service the machine even if I bought it from another dealer.

I'm getting close to making the purchase, and he's in the top three!
