I'm replacing the dynamo on my B7800 after the bearing locked up and much squealing and smoke was released (belt). I have the new dynamo but have a very simple question. The two wires coming from the dynamo are the same sky-blue color and have the same bullet-type connectors as do the wires on the tractor. Does it matter which wire from the dynamo goes to which wire on the tractor?

I suspect that since the dynamo is producing AC current that it doesn't matter. But, I also don't want to damage a very expensive part.

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

You're correct. It produces AC current, so the wire position don't really matter, hence the same color and terminals. Then the rectifier converts it to DC to charge the battery.

Thanks, ptsg! In all the info I found on the B7800 Dynamo no one mentioned the wiring.

For anyone reading this thread in the future, I installed the dynamo, plugged in the wires and everything worked. And, there is 0% chance that I would randomly hook up the wires correctly if they had to be done in a specific configuration.

Nice. Thanks for the update. Some tractors have a 3 wire dynamo, others 2 wire, the principle is the same.

LOL… I think there was a 50% chance you could have gotten it wrong, if the wires had needed to be hooked up in a certain way. Since there were only two wires…

In any event, congratulations on the successful installation!
