I read where a sow was taken with bow and arrow, and that she field dressed well over 500 lbs. Figured over 600 lbs on the hoof.

Probably for the best. Unless a boar is going to be breeding stock, it's just asking for trouble leaving him intact and then letting him grow to sexual maturity.

A friend of mine is a vet and she came out and castrated Oscar. He was getting pushy and seemed to be testing me. Since he wasn't too big at the time and his tusks hadn't come in, he wasn't a danger, but I could tell that it was just a matter of time until he might hurt somebody, or even myself. After he was castrated, his behavior changed dramatically for the better.

That is a lot of tusk for an animal that big to have.

I have been gored by a much smaller intact male -- I was hunting him with a knife, and we were squabbling over who was going to be lunch. I won that little contest, but my left thumb got sliced open pretty well.

I think you can get them pulled and they do not grow back...
