I can't quite picture what youre describing about an upper attachment

The one I have seen was a plate and box tube structure that attaches to the hoe where the foot rests are. It goes back across the top of the tank and fits into the toplink attach point and is held there with a pin. Every time you pull or lift upward on the hoe, there is a lot of downward stress on the two subframe rails. To make things worse, those subframe rails have two long slots cut in them further weakening them at a high stress point. The toplink attachpoint gives an alternate path to absorb some of this stress. Someone posted a pic of one here somewhere, but I don't recall where it is.

Ron, Maybe someone knows where that thread is and will post it for us of I can stumble upon it. I'm a visual learner. I'll have a closer look at mine today. From the pictures you posted, your valve assembly is set differently than mine. It might be the way this one was assembled. On mine the controls don't match the pictures on top of the case ether. When I open the front panel I'll see if I can switch the hoses to straighten that out. Richard

Yes it was the one made by Stumppuller.

I found that one, the one by stumppuller, not sure how it would help with downward pressure. Richard

The reservoir is set on mine is about 7inches higher, he made stand offs, to clear the hydraulic pump. It must be a bigger pump. I like the way yours is set, easier to use the foot rests. Richard

As the boom comes up, either lifting or ripping, the base frame of the backhoe, which is resting on the outriggers, wants to rotate outward from the rear of the tractor. It is like you put your elbow on a table and try and curl a heavy weight upward from the table surface and toward your shoulder, your shoulder wants to move toward your hand if your body dosn't resist this force. On these backhoes, The only thing resisting this movement is the backhoe frame bolted to the subframe rails. These rails are not all that strong, and will flex. A bracket attached to the toplink on the rear of the tractor will help the subframe resist this force.

As for your tank, on all the pics I have seen, the tank top is at the same height as the footrests. Got any closeup pics of your tank arangement and installed pump?

here is a shot showing that the tank is above the footrests. I'll put up with that. I think the next thing I do would be to arrange for less pressure on the return line. Richard I just looked at the picture, it doesn't show the tank.
