Backhoe Backhoe for M6800, any options

I am considering a backhoe for my M6800 Kubota (w/o cab) mainly to be used for putting in culverts occasionally and trenching roads, waterbars, etc. I am not sure I can justify the cost for the occasional use. The M4711 is the Kubota model. My questions are: whats is the approximate cost of this, does it mount to a subframe or just to the 3-pt. hitch, and are there some aftermarket brands that would suffice and be less expensive.? What experience have you guys had with a backhoe on a tractor similar to this 65 hp model. Any alternatives to using a backhoe for culvert placement (say for a 18 to 24" pipe)? Are used ones available and if so, what should I look for to make sure it would be compatible to my tractor?

Have you looked at Bradco? Their 511 w/subframe is (as far as I'm concerned) the state of the art for sturdiness/setup. I'lve got one on my 6000 Mahindra. Do yourself a favor and get the PTO pump rather than running off the tractor's hyd system. How much does the 6800 weigh? This is a consideration as too much of a backhoe will drag your tractor around if its not sized to your tractor. I don't know about the Kubota unit, but I'm guessing its pretty expensive. Thanks for your reply, Bob. My Kubota with loaded tires and a FEL goes about 7500 lbs. , so it's heavy. I've heard of Bradco, and wonder what it costs? Don't some backhoes mount just to the 3 pt. hitch? I assume a subframe is way stronger. Does the subframe stay on the tractor at all times, and if so, does that have any drawbacks? I guess there is a quick connect. Sorry to ask simple questions, but I've never used one.

Hello Harold - a backhoe on a M6800 is rare - I don't remember ever seeing one in the flesh. One reason might be that the L48 TLB has an eleven-foot backhoe and an industrial-style chassis so it filled that power/weight/reach product class. Of the twenty-seven M6800's listed for sale at Tractorhouse right now, not one has a backhoe. Maybe Woods or Bradco made one to fit but they sure are not common. Backhoes in that power/weight class normally have subframes. The subframe is much stronger than the 3-point hitch and consists of two massive plates running from the front loader uprights under and over the back axle to the BH. All the manufacturers' subframes do a good job of not interfering with regular 3-point hitch functions. The subframe stays on - and that's a stability advantage due to its low-mounted weight. A new Kubota 11-ft backhoe for a M6040 these days adds about $15k to the MSRP.

For $15,000, you could probably score a decent used full size backhoe, then sell it when you're done or keep it for future use.

Keeps the M6800 free for other chores, too.

Woods lists a subframe mounting kit for their BH9000 backhoe for the M6800. The BH9000 has since been replaced by the BH90-X. You would need to talk to Woods to see if the subframe could be used with the newer model.
