Backhoe

The question was wheather the 3pt hitch arms stay on during the BH install. They don't, the upper arms(rockshaft) lifts the hoe up so the upper pins can be installed. The longest part of the install is the removal of the two bolts that hold the lower hitch arm pins. This makes the hoe attach very close to the tractor instead of hanging way out like some of the other manufactures do. As for price, remember you get what you pay for. When I priced out deere and woods, the woods was actually alittle more from the deere dealer(448=7800 x80=8200 W/thumb) . And they had the woods instock and needed to order the 448. I talked with the dealer quite a bit about the two and really wanted a thumb that fit well. The dealer did recommend the woods unit and was very honest in there comparison. For me it was the fittment of the hoe that sold me. As far as the thumb, I just ordered a northsaw thumb and feel the fittment is going to be very close to the woods thumb. On the price subject I feel that's kind of a non issue. Let's face it more than 75% of us don't NEED a cut, and if you have hoe work there's no real need to jusify it. I will tell you like all attachments I have, you will constantly find uses for it.
Best of luck in the hunt.

Matt;)

I'm certainly in that 75% group. When I bought my 3320 TLB my main justification was "I'm never too old to have a great childhood!!"

I would have gladly bought a 110 if it were Green & Yellow...

As I understand it, the 110 is yellow because it is in Deere's line of construction equipment vs. their agricultural line.

The difference is that agricultural equipment can be used to move dirt, but that is not its primary function. Construction is built to move dirt day in and day out -- it is built stronger than the agricultural equipment.

Definitely a good point! The main consideration that I would have with this decision is: do I want another machine that I'm gonna have to feed and buy clothes for?? :D

Owning a backhoe attachment is alot less maintenance overhead than owning another machine. And the part's/repairs for a excavator (mini or otherwise) is in another dimension from a CUT.

Absolutely less maintenance than a seperate machine.

I almost bought a mini-ex a year or so ago, the thought of something breaking frightened me.

Aren't you just about as likely to break something with an attached backhoe as you are with a seperate piece of equipment?

Things break. That's always just been part of the deal to me.

I can see the concern over the extra upkeep on the seperate engine so I guess it's all in what your needs or wants are.

Yep... no cab really sucks! Deere would cut Kubota off at the knees if they'd put a cab on the 110!

Really would like cruise control, too. Using the tiller, and tedding, mowing, etc. would be a sweet feature.

But.... my FEL doesn't have all those pesky "quirks" that the QA FEL's on the 3000 and 4000 series!! :)

Dont even get me started on the crappy loader I'm stuck with...Talked to a machinist/fabricator friend of mine and he said once it gets out of warranty to bring the tractor to him and he'll fab up a new set of masts which are permanently attached....I'm contemplating it. Heck from the looks & reports of the new 305 "Budget Loader", I think thats a better design then the "Expensive" 300x & cx.

Dave, you are 100% Correct...If I had employees to drive it, I would without a doubt had bought the 110...they'd trash the interior of the cabbed machines, but seeing as its essentially a powered tonka toy, I wanted the cab, trinkets, accessories, etc.. the green paint requirement to me was a joke more then anything, but given the choice, I would rather have a Green 110 over a Yellow one... With the size & popularity of the 110 to us "heavy home users", I'm surprised JD Doesnt offer green paint as an option at least...what would it really cost them?

A bit OT but to make a long story short, it was the Lack of Cab and the "nice interior" that killed the 110 for me. The majority of us on here, essentially play with our machines be it a 3520 or a 110....i'm sure if Deere offered a 110 with the same cab as the 3x20 and 4x20 alot of you would have...I know I would have...Yes, Laurin has a really nice cab, but thats not a road I wanted to go down when Deere offered what I wanted to begin with...Green Paint, Sweet Interior. Maine weather trumped all the benefits of the 110 for me. What I REALLY want is a real loader for my 3520. Deere should come out with a new set of replacement Masts that is permanent as a retro-fit for those of us who are never planning on removing the loader...

Dave I agree that Deere should have a cab version of the 110, but I don't see that it would be anything remotely similar to the 3x20 or 4x20 series cabs. As mentioned before completely different layout for controls, operating the hoe from inside the cab as I do calls for a completely different arrangement.

I do like the 4x20 series cab though, and ordered a new 4520 yesterday.:D:D

From other threads I think the JD 448 is an Amerequip 8600.
You MIGHT get better prices by buying the sub frame and the generic (black) Amerequip hoe.

Interesting... I have read here (often) that Amerequip builds the JD hoe's for all of their CUT's. #7, #8B, #260, #375, #485.

I have never seen or heard that it was possible to buy ANYTHING from Amerequip - either directly (retail) or wholesale.

How or where is it possible for an individual to purchase from Amerequip?

Thanks.
