If you live in Oklahoma and use Central New Holland, let me forewarn you. the tech named Kyle gave me some bad info about my starter connections, cost me a bit over $400 to replace the saftey module and the fuel shut-off solenoid, They didn't offer to defray some of the costs. The way I finally figured it out was to go to heavymanuals.com and buy one for my boomer 35, way cheaper than new holland wanted for it, so what if I had to download and print it.

A shop manual is an absolute necessity for any complex piece of machinery.

Friend recently bought a 2011 Nissan forklift.
Claimed he did not need a manual.
Then found out service call rate was $187 per hour.
On my recommendation he bought a Nissan PDF manual --- $40.
Saved the $40 with first simple fix.

And hope that the manual actually matches the equipment and doesn't have 1001 translation errors, an increasingly common problem with so much being manufactured in the Orient.

Bad or otherwise useless dealer mechanics are everywhere, I'll skip my tale of woe with my snowmobile...:pullinghair:

Maybe you could try letting them do service and repair for you. Then, if you are not satisfied, you would have reason to complain.

What I read here is you did not engage the services from this company, and are bad mouthing them without having used their services. I hope I got that right and this is not some online pitch to sell manuals?

So it sounds like the message is dont touch your tractor beyond basic service outlined in the owners manual without a WSM. Most importantly read the WSM before you start!

So what, exactly, was the problem/Fault?

I had removed the starter as it was just clattering then forgot how the small wires went on. So I called Central New Holland to ask where they went, the guy said he had one in his hand, because I asked him if he was sure.

My owners manual has nothing about that, it is pretty basic.

Let me understand this. You are blaming the tech and the company he works for for work YOU did?

Sad

No, being an older person I have short term memory problems, he should at least know the equipment he repairs, "expert advice"

Did you ask him about a NH 35, a TC 35, or a Boomer 35? There might have been a misunderstanding.

And people wonder why, aside from loosing possible revenue, repair facilities don't generally dispense information.

Hence the recommendation for a WSM or WorkShop Manual. I would not expect wiring diagrams to be in the owners manual.

I am sorry about your memory issues...might be an even better idea to invest in a WSM. It has saved me a couple of times.

Just a little tip for the next time. Before disassembling anything electrical or mechanical, I usually take pictures and even more pictures during the disassembly if it gets really complicated. It makes it much easier to put back together and avoid some of the snarly remarks a few members here on TBN. A digital camera is a handy tool.

From time to time I have gotten good advice from the service department that I deal with while trouble shooting a problem . Advice given freely by them and sometimes prevents a field service call or hauling equipment to the dealership. That's how they maintain a satisfied and repeat customer relationship when it comes to purchasing new equipment.

I've been a auto tech for 25 years.
I never give out service info. I did in the beginning but found out real quick that only invites trouble.

Most people, even good do it yourselfers, dont know what the left or right side of the engine is.

The worst is when a customer pays for a diagnostic, declines the repair, then replaces the part themselves and complains when the problem is not fixed.
Only to find out they broke something else while doing the repairs.

In this case, sure it is possible the tech gave improper advice.
It is possible the OP did not convey the question properly.
It is possible the tech did not understand the question as it was presented.

It is also possible the OP did not fully understand or improperly executed the given information.

One thing is for sure......bad mouthing a business for information given verbally at no charge is simply not cool!
Especially when it was a one time occurrence.

As my Avatar shows , I Own and Drive my own semi . Regardless of situation , I never , if ever " Publicly " bad mouth anybody or any thing . Even the good or Bad Harbor Fright threads , although I will read , I never contribute . Ever person's situation is different . The next person who calls that mechanic may have a good experience . I have paid $105 per hour for work done on my semi only to ***** to high heaven with the shop supervisor since they actually did not fix the issue in the first place . Taking it back in was not a option , since I had to leave the next day for work . The following weekend , I found the issue and repaired it myself . The thing that really Frosted me was that they actually went the Opposite direction from were I told them the issue was, ( Rather than go forward , they went backwards , farther from the issue . )

I second the picture taking idea . I do that with almost all electrical repairs or disconnects for other repairs . One wrong wire and as the OP found out , POOF . That same shop I mentioned has 1 mechanic that I have known quite awhile , But I have never asked him for info on self repairs . I have asked him what is this or that , which has greatly helped me . As such , I have " Treated " him to a few extra Elk steaks for him and his Family a few times .

I can sympathize with the OP. Perhaps he should consult a lawyer and try to get triple his money back for the free advise that he was given.

For us old guys, a simple hand drawn sketch of the part in question is the answwr. Leave nothing to memory. Being a vehicle tech for over fourty years, that saved my bacon many times when a manual wasn't at hand.
