I'm sure harbor frieght has got a lot of good stuff, just taking the chance on something is the thing, now if they was a store around here where you could look at the stuff, that would be different maybe.

I know I've bought battery drills through northern,[northerns brand] and the batteries were junk, and you don't find that out till after its to late to send them back.

Depends on what you was buying I guess.

big D my insurance is a joke as well. im a horseshoer by trade and last year the apprentie forgot to lock the doors up on the aluminium stonewell topper thats on the truck and some scumbag got into it and stole close to $10k worth of tools and supplies. 50 sets of aluminium race plates all my shoeing tools my aluminium shoeing box. grinder buffer heat gun drill press portaband saw small tig machine. even took the forge. they cut the propane line and 60lbs of propane vented to atmosphere. only thing they left was the anvil because at #250 it was a might big to move.

insurance said i had to have recipts on everything to be cut a check for it. i tried to explain that alot of these tools i dont have recipts for. in the end they paid for the power tools and that was it. i was stuck covering the rest.

Now lets have a collective rant about insurance: Highway robery! Legalized Racketeering. Friggin Joke!

Sorry All,

I don't want to raise anybodies blood pressure. Though, I do imagine if everyone on this board posted how their insurance has failed them, we'd set some kind of new record about how many views and posts a thread obtained.

To 1950T, I hate to say it, but I'd have to give your bandits some kind of reward for thoroughness. Most just snatch what is easy to pawn/sell that will get them fast money. I don't think there is a thriving market for 'hot' Farrier tools, could be wrong I guess. It seems like they do draw the line at certain weight points. :D

BWD, there was a little chatter a few pages back about anvils. Though I'd like to have a REAL anvil for now this one works for me. It's made from small RR type track. It's actually what a 10 ton hoist travels on, on top of a crane within a machine shop. Anyway, I built the stand you see here and the "riser" is a piece of I-beam. About the scrap pile, always be on the look out for scrap metal. After you start paying attention you'll be suprised where you find it at. OH, and if it's on the side of the road, be careful...folks will run over you...they don't understand! :D:thumbsup:

jayste,

Nice looking home made anvil!

I kind of like your 'modular' set up. It gives you a nice, large flat surface to work with should you not need the horn or the face.

I bought the homestead that I grew up on, but only the house and out-buildings, anyway the one thing that I have in somewhat decent supply is fence posts. So, I've utilized them on some of the things I've built.

Kudos to you jayste for doing the same. They are as soft as can be, so I can see why you've braced them so stoutly.

Just curious, who's the person to most recently have given in to the Harbor Freight 'Gambling Bug', otherwise known as the H.F.G.B. ? Also, what did you get?

Come on now! Fess up, and don't be ashamed. We could start a Harbor Freight Buyers Anonymous. :D

"Hello, my name is ________________ . I have a problem. I can't keep from buying low priced tools that I may or MAY NOT need."

Step right up, who's first? :ashamed:

I've been clean for at least two weeks. When I did fall off the wagon it was for a set of wire strippers and a fish tape.

Alright! We have a good man trying to go 'clean'.

Well, Iplayfarmer, you can't expect to go "cold turkey" after a life long addiction with tools. I'm proud of you for acknowledging your 'weakness'. :D

Do we have any others trying to kick their habit???????

My last fix was a 9.99 15(19?,21? can't remember) led shop light, kind of like those Halogen lights but more compact. Works great. Just to walk through the store, and smell the gentle mix of cosmoline, imported rubber, cheap fresh powder coat, cardboard, and sometimes a strange smell of popcorn coming from the back is enough to get me through.

But, no junkie likes to get his fix alone. I just talked to my friend, who I gave my most recent catalog. He fell for $700.00 worth of assorted items.:D
