We finally got the roof finished last week. At least the north side is done. I will be doing the south side in the spring. Today we got all the plywood up on the north side and this will keep the barn dry from those nasty northern storms we get. I used slate architectural shingles on the roof. What a difference a new roof makes.

Jim, is that an old telephone bucket truck you are using?

Yup, except it is a ladder truck. These are better as you can walk up and down without lowering the bucket. It belongs to the contractor that is working with me. The truck is a rusted out piece of junk. The ladder on the other hand works pretty good. He is looking for a newer diesel truck to install the ladder on.

We finally got the front of the barn closed in. Now all that's left of the outside is to do the left side siding, install the windows and trim along the roof and finish laying new floorbaords inside. The right side roof will be shingled in the spring when it warms up and I will be replacing all the right side floor joists and planks inside the barn. The cows from years gone buy destoyed the old joists and floor boards. My winter will be spent rebuilding the old farmhouse so my daughter can move in hopefully next summer. I am going to be bored to death when this is over. I guess I'll have to find a real job again. The white speckles in the picture is snow falling today.

Tuesday was a big day for us. We finished up the north wall siding and put in the 3rd floor new floorbaords. I am presently working on the 12 foot 16 light front window that goes over the barn doors. I was hoping to get it done for the wife for Christmas. But I don't see that happenig right now. If it stays warm I may start on the south side of the barn. Otherwise, it is on to the interior of the house for a complete re-plaster, insulation and re-wire job. Wish me luck. It may be a cold winter outside and I'll be very busy inside. It is a good thing the house will be empty.

I never did put this photo up. I just got busy and forgot about it. I had this window built for the barn. Then I had to extend it on each end and add a few panes as the guy made it 12" too short. Don't ask, it was easier for me to fix it than to bother with having it done again of fixed. I didn't realize the screwup until I already had the panes in place and caulked. Also included is a picture of the 3rd floor.

Oh c'mon now. Stop picking on me (smile). I finished that window just before Christmas of last year and installed it before the snow started falling. The barn has been put on hold as it is weathertight once again. I'm working on the house project now and that is much more important that finishing the barn. Plus I had two surgeries back in march to my shoulder and knee. That laid me up for many months on the use of my shoulder. It wasn't suppose to, but it did. I'll post more photos when I get back into rebuilding the other side of the barn.
