A lot of batteries are rated for "free replacement" for 12 months only, then "prorated" after that. Rarely are they rated for free replacement for the entire warranty period.

I just had a napa battery that was 48mo into a 72mo warranty.. as you said.. 12mo free.. pro-rated after that. out of a 100$ battery I got about 33$ off on the new one.. beats a slap in the face I guess...

I think that is correct. You should get a new battery, but you would only have whats left of the warranty on the first battery.

When I had my automotive business the battery warranty always started from the day/month of purchase. This included adjusted batteries--warranty began fresh each time. How long the adjusted battery lasted had no relationship to the new replacement battery. It always amazes me how some managers quibble over pennies and wind up losing dollars in customer satisfaction. Mike.

Consider that if you got a full, free replacement at 4 years, 11 months, some people would intentionally damage the battery so that they could get a free new one, to be repeated in another 4 years, 11 months....

I'm willing to pay for a new battery every 5 years or so (but they usually last longer for me in the tractors). What I don't like is the cheap (but expensive) motorcycle/ATV batteries where you can't get anything better than a 1 year prorated warranty. I also hate the mc/atv designs where you have to disconnect and pull the battery out to check the fluid level.

In 1999, the original battery in my Kubota M4700 died, just under a year after I bought it. Dealer put in a cheap battery. I went to the local autoparts store and bought the best diesel pickup battery they had. It was still working fine when I traded the tractor last year.

This year, I replaced the original battery in my B21 TLB (about eight years old). I still have the original battery in my B2710 (bought in 2000).

I have returned a couple of the 3-years warranty batteries to WM and have never been questioned about it. Now, I did have to pay the core charge which was a pittance... I recently bought 4 12-volts batteries w/3 years warranty...

The premium Walmart batteries have a 3 year replacement guarantee and I believe they are prorated for the next two years but I am not sure of that. When I bring in a bad one less than 3 years old, they ring up one receipt for the full price and then deduct the full price so it comes out to zero and then they give me another receipt with no price but just the date I get the new battery. You use this receipt the next time you replace the battery. The new battery is under replacement warranty for 3 years from that date and everytime I get a new one under warranty the warranty starts over again.

The best battery I ever had was a Japanese one that was in my Yanmar tractor when I got it. It had special cell covers that were large enough for a fitting to fit into that lit a light on your dashboard when the electrolyte was low. I could not find a replacement that could use that hookup. The man I bought the tractor from said he had it 5 years and I had it 7 years before the battery went bad. Then I bought a Walmart premium for it. Now I have to just figure out how to get the Walmart battery to go bad in less than 3 years so I can get another free replacement.

We buy our batteries from Bob over at Quality Tire on Creamery Road. Reasonably priced and calls my wife "young lady" which she secretly enjoys...

I've had great service from Deka batteries too. Just replaced the one in my Ford 2000 early this spring, it was 9 years old. I also use that tractor to jump start my little BN Farmall w/magneto, for it's bi-weekly chore of running the hammermill, to grind hay for my old mare.

Another great battery was bought at Batteries Plus. Got 9 years out of that one too. Not sure how long it really lasted, as I sold the truck it was in that year. I believe they sold Douglas batteries at the time. I'm not sure if they still carry them or not.

Here is the link to Batteries Plus, if anyone cares to see if they have a store in their local... Batteries Plus battery store - All your battery needs for Laptop, camera, cell phone, camcorder, SLA, batteries recycling and much more
