Will be interesting to see how the Chinese EV work out, how solid economic the factories and importers of the cars have, will it be a functional service and parts support, I'm afraid it's a very different market in Europe than what they are used to.

So far the Chinese have very hard times trying to establish Chinese brands when it comes to a lot of other products, if they must also compete on quality the prise advantage is to small to compete.

Have been some serious work trying to sell excavator and wheel loaders here, but when the price difference is under 25% so the total economic does not work as the value drop is very high and they are not a match for Volvo, Cat, Hitach and other quality brands. I'm afraid that the same will happen to cars.

MG

And they even try on premium EVs as in the picture, the Hongqi E-HS9. Wonder how many chooses this over a Audi, Tesla or Benz, but they are seriously trying here in Norway.

The Chinese also compete in the commercial EV market, it's very interesting times.

It may have been a story from Australia where the China Tesla Model 3 was preferred over the USA Model 3. China can build any quality EV or other machine anyone desires wants to pay for today. It is just a matter of time before China then India out performs the USA. Both China and India are in a rush to move away from fossil fuels for many reasons.

My wife was in Centralia, WA, just off I-5. She said it looked like half of the charging stations were in use. Much higher than if previous years when you'd see 1 or 2 in use.
How many cars can fill up at the same time?
How long does it take?
What is the cost to fill-up?

China and India may be pushing EVs, but I'm thinking their power grids will be dependent upon fossil fuels for quite a while.

It comes down to global pollution vs. local pollution. While we may argue about man's effect on the global environment, there is no argument about his local effect on air quality in densely populated cities.

Power plants do a better job at dispersing the pollutants up into the atmosphere, whereas ICE vehicles disperse their pollution about one foot above ground level in the same area that most of the people live.

The last I read, India was heavily dependent upon coal to generate their electricity, and their power grid sucks. This means there is significant power loss between the power plant and the end customer. These factors combined mean that India is not saving the planet with EVs, but they would probably save some lives in their big cities.

I read some years ago, that in a typical urban environment, a Tier 4 Final diesel will expel cleaner air out the tailpipe than it's sucking in.

I wish someone made a kit of a bare bones 90s style mid size pickup, that one could put a similar era, non-emmissions Industrial/Ag diesel into.

Donno, can't remember how many stations, i'd guest over a dozen. Donno. Donno. Sorry, I don't have an electric vehicle, so no real world experience to pass on.

One of my friends has an older chevy bolt that he and his wife went down to Arizona from Centralia. He said it was a nice leisurely drive. They had no problem finding charging stations.

Granted, i don't live in a typical urban environment, but i'm just a bit dubious about that statement concerning Tier 4 diesel. I've yet to smell a diesel that doesn't smell like a diesel.

Might help a lot if you knew UL got spit to say bout anything electric utility does.
You should tell UL Energy and Utilities

And Square D, who uses UL on meter boxes, circuit breakers, distribution panels, ...

And Southwire who uses UL ratings on service entrance cabling.

Whether or not a utility company cares to select components complying with UL/ETL safety standards is up to them and their liability lawyers. At the very least smart meters cite CE mark and IEC 61010-1.

Had you ever run product through UL/ETL you would know they never “approve” anything. They test and write a report. They explain why the tests conducted are applicable. Safety testing never certifies the product works only that a failure is not going kill someone. That when it burns the gasses are not terribly fatal, or will not burn too fast, or if they are then the product should not be used in closed spaces.

Anyone practiced in the art knows copper PCB traces will grow tendrils at 120-240VAC if too close together. Look at HVAC control boards and you will see cuts in the PCB between some traces to prevent this copper migration. Just because it doesn’t arc today doesn’t mean it won’t 5 years from now.

This is a pretty good article which also addresses much higher voltages: http://www.magazines007.com/pdf/High-Voltage-PCDesign.pdf

Then you have not been paying attention. Examples are plentiful in suburbia. Any unmodified 2007+ diesel pickup truck exhaust will smell like a large propane heater.

You do not notice because they do not smell like a diesel.
