It may be 10 years before EVs will cover 90% of transportation needs. People know what their transportation needs are and what works for them and everybody can just do what works best for them. I have two old diesel tractors in the shop right now trying to make them last another 40 years.

Yeah…maybe. Its sad to think of all the pollution caused from policies forcing them to be manufactured To rapidly replace ICEVs.
Then theres all the pollution from ships constantly bringing them 6000 miles across the ocean from Asia.
I bet maybe 10-20% of them will even be assembled here from mostly foreign parts and batteries.

EV's will probably work well in urban and suburban areas...as a sole source of transportation
They won't work in rural areas as a sole means of transportation.
For me, personally, an EV would be OK for local trips. Even though I'm in a fairly rural, there's shopping close enough to use an EV

And the thing is, it was already tried. Electric cars were used 100 years ago in cities all over the world.
I agree thats where they would probably help the most with concentrated auto emissions, but the city charging station issue is still being ignored.

Probably will make a comeback when nations governments realize that “green” energy is so expensive the average person cant afford it.

I expect long-term the pandemic will have advanced the acceptance of EVS in the USA by 5 years.

Inflated of fossil fuel car prices is opening a door to the low end Japanese excuse me Chinese EV imports. I think we will know if China makes it inroads into the USA EV market by 2025.

One car I've had 45+ years is a '58 Nash Metropolitan. It gets 50 mpg and it was an inexpensive grocery getter. So while husband has the Cadillac, Lincoln or Imperial at work wife could get groceries, beauty parlor, etc. A tiny second car.
I think of EVs as that. Unplug, drive 20m to work, groceries, etc. An everyday use car that's inexpensive you plug in at home. A 200 mile range is plenty.
Especially big cities they would alleviate lots of pollution, noise, etc.
I don't like mandates (this is still USA?). Choices! What best serves the individual needs. EV, hybrid, gas, diesel, etc.
Some people live in a 900 sq. ft. home, others a 6K mansion. Do we want mandates on home sizes?

Man that looks nice! Did you do all that yourself? Restoring a classic has been on my bucket list for decades, just always seem to be lacking either money or time.

Kind of related but you wonder what the classic car scene will look like with ICE going the way of horse drawn plows. Chevy announced their electric crate motor package which will allow you to essentially plug-n-play an EV drivetrain into an older ICE powered car but with only 200hp it's not really targeted at the enthusiast market. Once there's a package like what's in the Tesla Model 3 which does 0-6 in 3 seconds with a top speed of 160mph I can see that being a real game changer.

Another example of the downside of ICEVS that have not been evaluated yet because we can let the kids foot the bill.

That made me think of all the nuclear fuel rods still stored where they were used for lack of a disposal strategy. Let the kids figure that one out.
