I need a battery for my 2320.. The current battery lasted a tad over 4 yrs and is a 22NF ~500 CCA..

What did brand/model battery did you replace your 2320 battery with? Did you have to change the hold down brackets?

What is so special about a 22NF battery? Why cant I replace it with a similar size/cca battery?

Autozone has a 22nf battery listed but cant even order one - its $113
TSC had a 22nf-6 (6 volts??) but it only had 390 CCA
Walmart didnt have a 22NF available..
Dealer had a JD battery for $79ish (last resort IMO)

thanks

I can think of absolutely no reason that you cannot use a car battery of similar size that has matching connections. That is what I do and I've never had a problem.

Don't waste your money. Buy an optima paste battery. They are indestructible, long lived and most importantly do not leak! Will not corrode the front end of your tractor if mounted sideways.

ipwanab - I researched online and found a LOT of posts saying the the Optima battery are not as good as they once were.. That was a serious consideration for a while..

I was bored tonite, so I got the measurements and went back to autozone to see what I could find that fit- they had a 51R-DLG (duralast gold) that is the same size.. But waited to see responses here before I bought..

I just need to get a different hold-down stuff and I can use the existing bolt holes.. 8yr warranty with a 3 yr replacement - $106 after exchange

thanks

Last I knew, Optima still makes a good battery. But they are expensive, 50-80% more than a conventional battery. For a tractor application, a conventional car/truck battery usually works quite well. If you should use your tractor regularly on steep inclines, an Optima can be the preferred choice because it's designed for such applications. Otherwise, you may want to just save the money.

I heard JD batterys are designed for off road use, heavier, better anchored plates. I pay the extra for JD batteries. My last one lasted 6 years..;)

I quick search on here and on google found quite a few posts talking about how bad the JD batteries were - so I have no idea what to think.. The JD battery was $80 with only a 3 yr warranty and the dealer is not conveniently located close to me..

I ended up getting the AutoZone Duragold 51R-DLG yesterday since it was more convenient and the warranty is MUCH better. The duragold doesnt have the ridge around the the base to mount it, but i was able to use the existing holes for an aftermarket hold-down kit..

I just had to replace my 2320 battery. Mine also only lasted 4 years. I went with a Napa battery. It was the same size and fit perfect!

The 51 series batteries are very close (if not exactly) the same size.. BUT they dont have the "lip" at the bottom of the battery for the hold downs..

Im hoping this is the last battery I will need for a while

UPDATED 1-4-2020

After 8.5 yrs the Autozone battery refused to start the tractor today.. I had no idea it had been this long but the battery held up well i feel. I have the battery on a smart charger to recondition, but Im probably just going to replace it.

I could not remember when i purchased the battery but then remember this thread and dug it up..

Like dishwashers, fridges, washers, and dryers.. just a few companies make them all LOL

After being on recondition overnight the battery charger showed a fault, so it will be replaced today..

Hey Brian,

We bought our B2320 in 2011, and the battery died this past Saturday PM- at first I thought it was just the usual BS with the safety switches not letting her turn over, but once we jump started her, she would stall every time we took the jumpers off.

So I did battery test- no juice whatsoever...

Would you get the AutoZone Duragold 51R-DLG battery again?

What was the rated CCA?

I generally try to upgrade the CCA with any replacement I do, because as long as I can fit it and lock it in, why not...

Was the hold down kit at AutoZone too?

Best of luck- thanks for sharing the info!

This is the biggest mistake you could make. Specially in tractors.

I got into a situation with the semi, where I replaced the batteries every other year. I put as much CCA in there as I could get, way north of 1000 x 4 batteries.
One day I talked to an old shop owner about the batteries sibce they were due again. He explained it that way: as more CCA the battery at a certain sice has, as more plates are installed in the same space. Due to vibrations, the plates in the tighter space are more likely to touch each other and shorten out, which destroys the battery.
I switched to batteries in the 700 CCA range and am happy with them. Last way longer.
