battery leaf blowers

I saw those compact blowers, Bosch's variant could be had for only $89, similar to many other brands. Looked like they might be useful for some specific around the shop or jobsite tasks, but figured it'd be too wimpy for blowing leaves off a pool cover. Even my 2-stroke struggles a bit with that.

True, the compact M18 blower isn't designed for leaf blowing. But that little thing is handy when I'm doing remodels, and running wood rouction, on saw horses, and is great for blowing out the table saw, toolbelt, other tools, and box trailer.

Funny I mentioned that on a youtube video (provided here in this thread) that the guy was using an M18 compact and comparing it to true leaf blowers, then complaining. Milwaukee calls it a jobsite blower in its description on its site. The larger one it calls it a blower for landscapers. Guy comes out and lies about its description saying the compact is a leaf blower, then blocks me from commenting back. It's like comparing a moped to a motorcycle. Funny the guy got that uptight.

'Right tool for the job' needs to be studied by said character.

I have the Dewalt and the Milwaukee regular sized blowers. I have the ones that use regular drill batteries. I keep them in my vehicles. They work good for blowing gravels off a trailer deck, blowing out the garage after I bring home firewood and blowing sawdust off a customers driveway. The Milwaukee blows a little harder and the Dewalt battery last a little longer. They both eat batteries fast. Even 8ah ones only run a few minutes. I used to have the compact Dewalt blower. It died and I replaced it with the bigger Dewalt one. The small one was nice for blowing off the garage steps or blowing the dust off a miter saw before I load it in the van. I liked that you could put the tube on the suction side of the intake and suck air instead of blowing. It would suck a string through conduit better than the larger blowers could blow it through. I wouldn’t classify any of the 3 as real leaf blowers and the compact one definitely isn’t. I know that manufacturers build more powerful battery blowers but I didn’t want that. I already own the Dewalt and Milwaukee batteries and a backpack blower.

I like that idea, but my experience has been:
1. extension cords don't slide around parked cars where I'm blowing leaves.
2. abrasion damage to extension cords can ruin them.
3. replacing a plug-in with a 2 cycle makes you love 2 cycles again.
4. when the 2 cycle quits running, you remember why you hate 2 cycles again.
5. the cheap battery blower works "good enough" until you buy a "good one".
6. technology changes and you never buy a "good one".

I have 2 plug in blowers that I’ve had since before battery blowers were a thing. I didn’t pay for either one of them, they just showed up. They work pretty good to leave by the garage door and blow off my lawnmower deck and lawnmower radiator when I’m done using it. That’s really the only job I use them for. They blow considerably harder than my battery blower does. They’re also super loud. At least as loud as a gasoline blower and it’s a higher pitched screaming noise.

My wife has a small Black & Decker blower, more like an air broom. She bought it several years ago because it was small and light weight, easy to use clearing debris from the front and back porches or occasionally the sidewalks if I have not gotten back to them quick enough after trimming. She uses it almost everyday from spring to fall so for a little cheap thing she has sure gotten the moneys worth out of it. Actually replacement batteries cost more than it did.

I have 2 plug in blowers that I’ve had since before battery blowers were a thing. I didn’t pay for either one of them, they just showed up.

You just reminded me that we had a Craftsman plug-in blower at my parents house, when I was growing up. I had totally forgotten about that thing.

We never used it for primary leaf clean-up, we used rakes to clean out gardens and our old 8hp Honda Little Wonder to blow the leaves to the curb, where the township would pick them up. Come to think of it... I'm not sure why we even had that little electric hand-held. Dad might have bought it to use at rental properties, as the Little Wonder wasn't very transportable.
