Battery powered chainsaw recommendations? (2017)

Did you photoshop shop that or is it for chainsaw carving or something?

I shortened the bar in a photo editor, to about 22mm.

And I just noticed that the n't fell off the would in my post, so I put it back.

I have a basic idea of the metric system. The problem is I can't eyeball a metric bolt and tell what's size it is or guesstimate the length of a log in centimeters, etc.

I am getting better at it, it just takes a bit of practice. Just like we did with the SAE system. No one knows how to eyeball SAE bolts either at first, but as we gain experience with doing this we get pretty good at just looking at them and figuring out what they are. Same for metric bolts, we just need to practice it a little.

If you work with it enough you learn it, the same way you learned to do it for sae. I'm used to doing mechanical work in metric. Lately with the new tractor I've been working on the implements and hydraulics. They are sae, which I haven't worked with for a long time. I'm learning how to recognize sae bolt head size like I can with metric.

After 35 years of cutting with gas saws - I heartily welcome the advent of battery powered chainsaws. When available, I buy log truck loads of hardwood. Two years ago I sold my Stihl 290 and purchased the EGO saw with 16" bar and 56 volt battery. The EGO easily, quickly cuts through seasoned madrone, and oak. I miss the Stihl like I miss Navy boot camp.

Easy as pie. The battery run time is about 45 minutes. By then I'm ready for a break.

I don't know if anyone spoke of the Oregon saw. 40 Volt I believe. I was sold when shown the self sharpening feature. I have not used it much. Just carry it, when I might need a saw to remove a fallen tree or limb. I more use the 40V pole saw and string trimmer, both of which I love.

Apparently the Oregon Rep demoed the saw by cutting into a cinder block, using the sharpener and resumed cutting wood.

Do the self sharpening chains actually work and cut comparable to a regular chain?

They are not self sharpening. You have to engage the stone. It cuts very well compared to any other saw.

The downside is, you have to replace the chain (which is $pecial) and the $tone. It's why I use it sparingly, only when it's a better choice. Like I mentioned earlier, or when in a basket cutting a few limbs.

Oregon sells that self sharpening thing for gas saws too. PowerSharp Chain Sharpening Kit - YouTube

I remember seeing a self sharpening chain & saw mounted stone setup on some Sears catalog saws in the 1970s.
