Battery question

RE; battery question, Since I have a jd4600 the battery is in front of the radiator. I decided to put in a gold top optima, it's sealed so the out gassing of sulfuric acid if any won,'t corrode the radiator, sealed so it won't leak from rough ground vibrations got 8 years on it so far. It's a little spendy but then so is the time to R&R, go to town for a new one!

Ill measure the tray size tomm, its pretty small though. Why stay away from deep cycle? Thanks

Deep cycle is good for a constant draw for a long time, not good for starting. Starting battery is good for a high draw in short burst, but not as good for a constant draw over a long time.
You want a starting battery.

Ive finished doing most of what I needed and should have done to the B6100 when I purchased some time ago, Ive greased everything, changed all the fluids, changed all the filters, got the electrical figured out so all the lights work and even the horn.

It has a hazard switch, not sure how that is supposed to work, it does nothing at this point, I have one aftermarket light on right side that comes on the moment the key is on and I have a left factory tailight that comes on when I turn the lights on.

Not sure how a hazard is supposed to come into play.

One of the fuses had melted itself into the plastic casing so there was no contact with the wire end, after finding and fixing that all is well.

The fuel filter gave me fits to remove ( as in I had to forcibly extract from the fuel bowl ( Im assuming mines been replaced since its plastic )

Someone had left the cap of the old fuel filter up inside of the housing, I didnt figure that out right away myself, the small rubber O ring was shredded down inside the fuel bowl, all this time and for who know how long the fuel system hasnt been filtered because of this.

I also replaced the fuel lines since they were not pliable.

Did a bit of welding repair, the draw bar housing was broken in two where it contacted the diff and the fuel filter housing bracket was split nearly in two as well requiring repair.

Lots more was done that Im sure Im forgetting

Anyway I still have more questions, Ill make another topic and put them there all together. Thanks to everyone

BTW I got my FSM tonight, I finally found a reasonably priced one, Im sure it will be a big help

My friend never regretted putting a heavy battery out front on his B7100.

His strategy is to regularly install a new battery in his car and put the car battery in the Kubota.

That way in very cold weather the car always starts. The Kubota is very happy with a slightly old battery with far more CCA's than would be available from a proper battery fitting under the hood.

The battery in my Samurai was 11 years old and I was given a new/used deep cycle Interstate Battery... it was in a camper and they upgraded the electrical and took the new battery out...

I thought why not give it a try in the 4wd Samurai... it has been a couple years now and zero issues... spins up that little 4 cylinder just fine...

Marine Deep cycle batteries are rated for cranking amps too. They will last longer for running a trolling motor all day and still have enough reserve capacity to crank an engine. I use them on tractors, electric fences, and old diesel trucks that have glow plugs. When the battery in my rtv does I will probably replace it with a marine battery to help with the 8000lb winch that I winch logs and stuff.

One of the ads I remember for marine batteries is they are or this brand is built to withstand more shock and vibration... no idea if this is still true but some boats take a tremendous beating at times...

I need a battery for my b6100. E.

1.someone put a car battery in it and while it works fine it doesn't quite fit the tray properly.
2.I've called around to several places and I'm getting very conflicting information.
3.Kubota dealer in Lakeland is telling me that they sell car batteries for tractors that they're not specific for tractor they're just normal car batteries.
4.I can buy a car battery a lot cheaper than I can buy a tractor battery but I thought tractor batteries had more amperage and lasted longer not being used?
5.Napa told me that a tractor battery was nothing more than a fancy word for a car battery?

1. It doesn't matter as long as the battery is not too much smaller than the tray.
2. I hope you don't find that to be surprising
3. Good for that dealer. They are correct, and they are saving you money.
4. Nope. It is true that you can buy special special batteries for tractor or cars, but electrically they are so close to being the same that it doesn't matter. A special high capacity tractor battery is just not necessaryfor a small diesel tractor (under 75 hp or so) that is not being used in arctic conditions.
For something like a B6100 buying anything more than a small car battery is just a waste of money.
If you want to spend more, put your money into a good AGM type car battery that fits your battery tray.
5. Yep. Good on them as well.
6. As for deep cycle vs starting batteries....what you are hearing is true about the difference; but it doesn't make enough of a difference on a small diesel again not being used in arctic weather. Just buy the one you like best.
7. And if a battery is anywhere near the radiator (or even if it is not) then you will be much happier if you buy a sealed one. Most of the AGM type batteries on the market today are sealed batteries. They don't outgas acid fumes and never need water. Absolutely worth the money.

Be sure to clean the terminals on the battery wires. Both ends. Don't forget to clean where the (-) connector bolts to the tractor frame.
