Been impressed with my Massey!

.....Just an update now that I've gotten some seat time on my MF 1523. So far I've been really impressed with this little tractor.
.... I've taken the 60" woods mower through untouched, 10-12" tall grass, and the tractor rpms are un-phased.
....I've used the CCM 49" Tiller in both rock-hard, and soft dirt, and the tractor has no problem.
....Today I used the 30" Dirt scoop pan, angled it down for digging, filled up the scoop pan over and over, and the tractor pulled it fine (However, I was in fairly soft dirt which made this job easier). I'm sure that in hard ground I'd have more trouble with the scoop.
..... I have kept rpms up & gearing low to keep from lugging engine since I'm still in the break-in period.
.....But so far no engine lugging, and no traction lost with any activities yet. With loaded tires and "4" x 42lb. front weights, my total weight is around 2,200+ lbs.(not counting my 165# body weight)
.....This thing is so much fun, I don't remember even as a kid, getting a toy that I enjoyed so much!

Jeep, Ahh Yes I remember this feeling well, When I got my first tractor... I remember the shear torque that it has to drag a good sized tree right out of the ground (WOW /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif)

Its amazing what you can drag with those things /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif My last bit of fun was dragging about 18ft of 2ft dia oak out into the field to cut it up /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Just amazing!!!

I’ve been curious how it was going because I know you’ve followed the same trail I have. Wish my local dealer had one, they have bigger and smaller but no 14-1523’s. I need to look around the state and see if there’s one I can have a look at, this is a good week for me to get away with wife being off work.

. Yes, I nearly drove myself crazy trying to make a decision. The 1528 just seemed too big for me, and the GC2300 would be great except to me it looks too much like a Lowe's or Home Depot's "riding mower." If MF would've made the 2300's hood/front lights more big tractor-like, I'd have thought more about it.
. I had my decision down to a small-framed CUT. I heavily considered the JD 2320 that's coming out in May, but some personal factors that steered me away were:
. Engine rated @ 3,000 rpm vs. 2,600(MF)
. Tractor size....2320 has approx. same size eng. (68 cu.in.), but is 7" longer, etc.
. and I know there are pos. and neg., but I like the metal hoods and bodies over the plastics(JD,NH,CI-etc.)
. One last thing was price.
The thing with the 1523 that I was hesitate about was the 3PH lifting cap., but so far with my heaviest implements being 600#, the tractor's front end hasn't seemed light at all(with no front weights either).
Overall it feels very solid with no rattles and for a small tractor it has a nice diesel tractor sound. My last mower was a 12HP Toro and I'd bet the 1523 could pull 5 or 6 of them together, anywhere it wanted.
