That appears to be a non-certified ROPS that we have heard has been showing up on some recons. Does it have an OSHA certification sticker on it? If so, which OSHA standard (this would be a numeric series)?

Here are a couple of closer pictures of that ROPS adjustment, no signs of any certification number anywhere. Appears as the adjustment screw holds the ROPS tight to keep the locking pin engaged, loosen the nut and you can pull the pin and fold the ROPS down, for getting into a low clearance barn maybe?

It definitely doesn't look extremely sturdy on closer inspection, perhaps I'll look around for a better ROPS setup. I would hate to end up squished and eaten by the ants (I really hate ants) ;)

Thanks for the input! It's much appreciated! :)

Kevin

We are lucky in the Yanmar forum to have many dealers who post with extremely useful and important information. As we all know, the only thing worse than not having a rops, is having one that might not work when needed. When a dealer posts info on a possibly unsafe rops, he is doing it to benefit the safety of all of us who read these threads and making us aware of the possible hazards if we should get one and certainly not trying to cast disparaging remarks about one's tractor.

No worries Tallyho, I didn't take any offense to anything, like you say it's great to have these resources available and I appreciate any and all input. Never pass up good info!

And my sincere point was that the reconners continue to copy those of us doing it right, with no apparent concern for the customer. Before UTDA you couldn't find anyone selling vn recons who had manuals, much less ROPS. Now that we've made an impact, it seems they copy.....not for real, but for effect. A UTDA tractor is certified to specific safety standards, including an OSHA approved ROPS (among many safety features), and is supported with service by a network of dealers. Look at all the questions being asked here by buyers of vn recons. I mean this as NO shot at the buyers...where else can you go? My point is that you don't find many, if any, buyers of UTDA tractors on here with the same volume of questions, the lack of information, etc., because it is provided or offered by the selling dealer.

A non-certified ROPS can create a false sense of security that could be fatal, and most buyers simply aren't aware enough of the issues to ask when shopping. It's always been our principle that it is up to us to present accurate and complete information to our shoppers. Part of the truth is no better than a lie.

I trust it came with a working seat belt? A ROPS with no seat belt is not a safety feature. Foldability is always for storage....using the tractor with the ROPS down is a really bad idea.

I installed the model of certified ROPS that LMTC sells. I posted several pictures in this thread:

ROPS for YM240 (YM2000) - pictures

And here is its certification sticker. I posted that in another thread that discusses the certification standard in some detail:

That hinge mechanism on your uncertified ROPS looks to me to be less than half the beefyness of what I bought. And my tractor is right up near the 4000 lb certification limit with its loader, loaded tires, and an implement on it. Add some heavy object strapped in the bucket (the situation where I'm most likely to get pulled over on a side slope) - and I'm over its certified weight limit.

I wonder if your ROPS was adapted off some much smaller tractor? Does anyone recognize it? I don't think I would trust it!

I guess he would have to post a pic of the way it mounts to the tractor... It may not even mount the same, as the certified ROPS. of course, It would have to have the correct locking type seat belt

Thanks LMTC, Yeah, I kind of figured they had just made a cheap copy. I didn't trust it anyway, but nice to have some confirmation.

I'm going to try not to need it, knock on wood.

And yes I can see the frustration of companies selling sub par safety equipment, especially to those who have no experience. Not a good practice, and unfortunately I guess I supported that in a way.
