Bent 3pt arm...

Sorry to hear of your problem, but it's bound to happen sooner or later if pushing snow with a rear blade going in reverse. Those arms are not designed to be used for pushing, especially when something like ice or rocks or soft ground are encountered. If really careful, one can get by and not damage something. But it is hard to be "really careful" when the snow is piling up, the temp is cold, and the wind is blowing. And the snow moves so much better when going faster than the "be careful" speed required.

Wish you luck on the repair.

It shouldn't cost that much, that's what a BFH is for. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Well now you get to use the two most used tools when working on a tractor.. a big hammer and a smoke wrench...

""I notice that some tractors have a "slide type" or "deluxe" setup with a pin for adjustment - would (that) have helped any? ""

In answer to this question, yes, I would think the "slide type" would help, because the two slides would have held the load on the arms from both sides (one slide in tension and one in compression).

Now granted, if the load increases beyond that limit, then both arms would be bent. But I would expect the limit to be near twice what it was to bend the single arm.

I'm just asking......

If you did have those arms and having twice the strength. Would you be in danger of transfering that energy to break something even more expensive?

Ctyler,

That is one good question and I believe one would be taking that risk with heavier arms. It does go back to, pushing with them arms was not the design of them. Even with them arms I would assume you would be taking the risk.

I made a homemade 3 pt linkage for B6000 several years ago now. To suit spacing and narrow profile of tractor, arms were formed cranked.
Had a 3pt transport box on and was pushing into gravel to load up. Too much grip in fwd, the rest is obvious. One arm bent almost right angles to rear wheel.
Don't despair. Some heat and a homemade bending fulcrum and you can straighten out almost perfectly. Gets weaker after the 3rd or 4th time however /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The short answer is yes, something else will be in danger of breaking. For a hint of what that might be look at where the arms attach. If you're lucky it will be the pivot pins, if you're not...

Now the long answer. It's human nature to push until something gives. Normally, with CUT's and SUT's you run out of traction. Of course, the first thing most people do is put fluid in tires and weights on to increase traction. Now you have traction, so parts begin to break and bend. Once those are beefed up, you begin to run out of traction again. And so on... Eventually you have a machine which exceeds the performance envelope of every OEM part on it, but man will it do a lot of work. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yes it will........may end up looking like a pretzel too.

Good job. You summed that all up pretty well. Hopefully the weakest link that will break is not the most expensive. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
