Bent check chain

After a day of pulling logs and brush and raking over a few washouts on the road I noticed I had bent the upper half of my right check chain. I had a big clevis attached to my drawbar and think it must have swung wide and got over the check chain before I brought up the 3 pt arms but this is only a guess. Is it a problem? How, if possible, can I bend it back? Should I get it replaced?

I'd try to bend it back...nothing to lose, it isn't gonna be right like it is, if you can fix it- great, if not well you need a new one anyhow...

Mine on my 4150 have always had issues, but I've never found a heavy duty replacement. I'd bend it back for now, chances are it will never bother. Keep it lubed with anti-seize as well, they tend to get sticky after a while.

Providing you are not needing a metric left hand thread.
I faced the same problem and purchased an after market pair at less than 1/2 price of machine shop charges (not all shops have metric left and right taps and dies) and about 20% of factory new part plus I ended up with a whole new pair of 'after market' replacements with the OEM parts as spares.

My 'after markets' (in my opinion) were actually better than the OEM as to design and 'beefyness' .
They have now served me 6 (hard) months with no indications of weekness.

if its a self contained unit then metric wouldnt be necessary, in that case a large turnbuckle could be adaped

i have a welder and cutting outfit so my first thought is to make it myself


if they are cheaply avaliable then thats the way to go

i buy stuff when its cheaper and less time consuming, im not wedded to the i have to make it myself, too much to do

mcmaster.com has left hand threaded rod and nuts


a nut could be put at both ends on the shackle and the turn buckle that way if you bend it again just replace the threaded rod

It sure is a perfect time to switch to the telescoping stabilizer links, ~$60 when I changed mine and won't go back to a turnbuckle and wrench. Lots of threads here and it's simple to do.

For now, I too would just bend it back and use it till it breaks completely.
You can always order the replacement for when that happens again.

May or may not be a deal, depends on if it is the correct size, it obviously isn't the same as the one the OP bent.....

That said $4 for just about ANY turnbuckle that large is a great price if you've priced generic ones lately I've got a few on the way just because...I might need some one day, for something....don't know what yet

Thats is an awesome deal, I've got an order for a couple of these too. I was looking at Crosby turnbuckles recently for this same use and one that size was almost $60 each.

I would agree with those that say bend it back and see how it goes. I've bent a few of those and straightened them out with out a hitch. Take a torch heat it up and slowly straighten it in a vise. It will be close to good as new, From experience I have yet to actually replace one on a large machine, unless of course I snapped it in half while trying to straighten it.

Check chain straightened! I fix computers and the last stop today was at a machine shop. After replacing computer part I asked owner if he could straighten a threaded rod for me. He said it should not be a problem and we went over to a table vice/material holder and he took a look at the check chain and asked if it was from a Kubota. He then told me about his B3030 and I told him about my B2620.............He straightened the rod and ran a die over it to clean up the threads.
