best 9mm?

Here in Ohio, we got the "castle doctrine" passed a few years back. In a nutshell, if a bad guy enters your home or car, you have a green light to use deadly force. Also the poor "victims" family, or the bad guy if he lives has can not sue you. Before this, Ohio was a "need to retreat" state meaning you had to leave your own home rather than fight if there was an exit available.

yep.. we have castle hear and also had to retreat.

now we can stand our ground and do not have to turn our back and run when a criminal approaches us threatoning harm. anywhere we are legally allowed to be, we can stand our ground and meet force with force.

it's how it should be..

If some one is a pacifist and refuses to take another's life that is their right.
I'm kind of a pacifist but I will not submit to a physical assault or allow anyone within in my proximity to be physical assaulted. I will intervene with deadly physical force if all else fails to stop the threat.

Might suffer afterwards with guilt over killing someone, even if it was legally justified. It is almost impossible to predict how much guilt one may have.JB

i consider myself a well armed pacifist.. :)

i don't look for trouble.. but I refuse to be a willing victom...

Got a msg. from my friend with the S&W Governor.

He loads 2 rounds of .410 buckshot, and 3 rounds of .45 ACP to fire in that order. Philosophy being to surprise, disable, kill. He figures if the bear or killer isn't stopped by the buckshot, he still has killing rounds left and whatever the target is, things will happen at close and closing range.

Probably the same for many of us gun owners. Peace loving people.

Probably hard for the anti gun crowd to understand, seems a little hypocritical we have vaults full of weapons, but they are the angry, uptight combative ones.

Hear Hear! I'm all for "live and let live", but if you start fooling with "me and mine", then it's a whole new ballgame. I may be like the little mouse in the "Last Great Act of Defiance" but you're gonna know you've been in a tussle...

One of my brothers used to carry a 12 gauge shotgun as part of his survival kit in the airplane in Alaska. He said you load it so your first 2 shots are birdshot and the last 3 are slugs; said you only need the gun to kill rabbits and birds for food, or to stop a bear if one gets after you. And since the bear needs to be close for the slugs to stop it, and it's hard to stand still with a bear charging, the birdshot gives you something to do while you're waiting for the bear to get close enough.;)

Pennsylvania also has a "Castle Doctrine" law. The best thing about laws such as this is it prevents the assailant (or their survivors) from suing someone that has injured or killed them in self defense.
And, for you folks worrying about how you'll react to shooting another...just remember you shoot to stop an assault...that's all. The odds are, you won't kill him.

Asking which is the best 9mm is like asking which is the best tractor, best truck, best boat, etc. There are a lot of good ones, some better than others, but mostly a matter of personal preference. . .
Bird nailed it.

I own three 9mm's (as well as a basketfull of other handguns).
My preference is the Springfield XD9. I would suggest the XD or the Glock, and my pick is the XD.

He's got the order right. Many people don't realize how feeble the .410 is, but the .45 ACP has more power. Mention to him that he might think of switching to the .45 LC for even better power. That may be what he meant anyway, since I don't know how he would have loaded both an ACP and a .410 into the same cylinder at the same time, since the .410 is a rimmed cartridge and the ACP requires a moon clip.

If he's going to be shooting bear with a handgun, he should think seriously about upgrading to a .454.
