Best all around gun?

You and I both have our CPL, so we can carry our pistols afield regardless of the season, openly carried or concealed. Which is why I recommended to the OP to get his CPL. Without it there are far too many restrictions. Best of which is that a pistol has to be in "transport" mode in your vehicle..

That was the prime motivator in my getting the concealed carry. I always carry firearms to and from the range, in cases with the ammunition seperate and out of reach but there was always the chance.... Transport mode as I interpret the statute is in a secured case, magazine removed and/or ammo stored in a location not readily accessable.

On the last outing, I carried no less than 3 long guns and 3 pistols plus ammo plus my concealed carry gun in my coat in the car. I'm still a stickler for the rules. The ammo for the long guns and pistols was seperate and away from the guns themselves as were the magazines for the semi auto's. Of course, my carry gun was loaded in my coat pocket......

The 'open carry' law in Michigan is vauge in as much as it's entirely up to the individual LEO as to whether a person is legally open carrying without the CPL. Just better to be safe than sorry.

I typically carry pistols. They may be match target pistols, but pistols nonetheless.

It's been my personal experience that holding a CPL in this state, elevates you above the average citizen in the eyes of the law enforcement officers. They all know that we know the rules and are ready to comply in order to hold the permit, consequently, I've found them to be more lienient toward minor infractions like speeding, but that may just be me.

The "transport mode" requirement is the same reason why anything that is a legal pistol is in fact useful to you in the field, since you can carry it loaded in your car, tractor, atv or whatever. Shotguns may be useful, but cannot be carried loaded on a vehicle in this state. The reaction time needed to remove a rifle or shotgun from its case and load it pretty much precludes a shot on a predator that you come across while out in the field (regardless of the type of predator).

Oddly, I have no shot guns other than my grandma's JC Higgins 410 that's out in the shop.

Everything here is solid projectile, except the Tarus and the Bond.... (45/410).

In MS ones vehicle is an extension of their home. One exception is during hunting season a game warden can ticket for having a loaded firearm in a vehicle if you are deemed to be in the act of hunting.

If you're shooting coyotes, the Hevishot Dead Coyote load in #4 buck will knock them down at 70 yards.

Roy ,I have had a concealed pistol permit in NY state for 35 years.Don't confuse"New York City" with the rest of us!My permit does not allow carry in the "City",it's 400 miles from me,I don't really care.
