Per the instructions you want it as close to the center of the block as possible for even heat distribution. Attached is the Kioti installation instructions I posted last year when we discussed this.

When I was thinking of installing one on my CK 27 a few years ago I seen there was only 1 hole it could go in. At that time I wasn't aware you could buy a bushing in order to fit a heater in the block so I glued one to the oil pan. After this post I'll now install one in the block as well.
