Best engine oil weight?

I've always been a Mobil 1 guy. However, having looked at some recent info from links on tractorbynet, it seems like a decent to good mid-range oil for autos. Amsoil appears the top end.

Mobil 1 Delvac looks special to me for diesels though.

Of all the tests by Amsoil and several other independent companies I have seen for different motor oils, small engine oil and gear lubes over the last few decades, Amsoil is always in the top 3 spots if not the top. Mobil 1 is usually in the top 4 as well. IF I didn't use Amsoil, Mobile 1 would be my next choice.

I know someone else mentioned it here earlier but yesterday I saw an ad for 0W-16 full synthetic oil made for late model Hondas and Toyotas.
Amazing that they would decide that 0W-20 was not thinned down enough. Maybe 16 is rock bottom? Our engines have so much tighter tolerances now.
I had a Farmall Super A that even with new gaskets dripped oil like an old Detroit diesel.
Pouring that straight 40W gave one a feeling of substantial oil.

Need some youtuber to put straight 40W into a modern car engine and see what effect it has.
Other than Bob The Oil Guy and perhaps Project Farm, who do you believe?

From an East Coast viewpoint, I'd suggest "thinner" oil from Pennsylvania North.
But perhaps with global warming at some point we'll all be back to straight 30W... ;)

Amsoil ranks their oil on the top, big surprise.

None or almost none of this makes a difference in these garden tractors most with little to no use.
An old guy can brush hog with 50, doesn't mean it won't work. Lots of engines ran long life with wrong oil and sure those people swore by it. But this "expeience" the testimony from part time hobby types doesn't mean squat, tractors under warranty hours for decades.
Be a bit different and even more relevant if this came in 10k pluses hours, 40 hrs a year with seasonal change isn't really evidence.

Hold yer hat they are already working on a 0w-8 synthetic oil, it would not surprise me to eventually see vehicles using a straight 0w oil.

Amsoil has 0W-16. I don't recall reading of any lower numbered ones in developement.

It (0w-8) was in the Amsoil magazine a few issues back when they announced the 0w-16.
