Best method for a tractor to move/haul/process downed logs?

No question, that telehandler ROCKS!

Other than owning my small Massey SCUT for nearly a year, doing only mowing and loader work, I know little about tractors. So although I see people recommend a SSQA and a grapple, I don't know the difference between a SSQA and the pin-on or quick attach hardware that would come on the front of a Kubota tractor. I will definitely spend money for convenience, which sounds like what the SSQA delivers. Why is a SSQA better than a more traditional or standard Kubota setup?

SSQA is a standard. It's the QA in the "SSQA" that makes the big difference, that "QA" stands for Quick Attach. If you have a need to swap out loader attachments with any regularity then the [SS]QA is a big help. My new Kioti is SSQA and I've got, in addition to the bucket, a grapple and a set of pallet forks. My pallet fork work isn't of long duration, so being able to put on and take off for a quick job is very helpful.

That helps thanks. Is the Kubota.factory qa a ssqa compatible system?

There were years in which Kubota had it's own "proprietary" system in which only it's own attachments (limited variety) was available. For sure, today everyone is basically adhering to the skid steer standard: John Deere, I think, is still a bit odd though.

A full size telehandler is not designed for dirt work.

One big advantage of a compact telehandler is it's digging ability and being able to push or pull itself out of being stuck.

It doesn't get tippy sideways, like a tractor where the front axle pivots.

It will raise the rear axle with over 3,000 pounds in the bucket, if the boom is extended, but the front axle is solid to the frame, so it is very stable with a load in the air.

Xfaxman. My full size New Holland telehandler IS designed for dirt work but I find it inefficient and awkward for many tasks. It's used mainly for loading (high sided) slinger trucks and pallet work.

Judging from your cool photos you're probably just a much better operator than I.

.....but in my defense I have a couple of compact wheel loaders and a full size excavator to use also. :)

These are full size, note the rear high mount boom and the long front vertical section of the boom where the forks attach.

The Compact Telehandlers have a low mount boom and a short strong front attachment mount designed for dirt work.

Yes. I stand corrected. My LM series is indeed considered 'compact'. I have a bad habit of assuming anything over 100 horse power to be NOT compact.

You have the same situation to some extent with a sun shade. I am constantly looking for low branches. Got to get the pole saw out and do some extreme trimming. I could take the top off but in the summer it is a life saver.

You need limb risers. I did not have a canopy, but added limb risers and some falling object protection to my tractor. It took me almost 15 years to get around to adding this. Now that I have it, I wonder how I got along in the woods without it.

I agree. Nice job. Did you do the fab work yourself?

And I thought I had all the equipment I need...

Those telehandlers sure look handy

I started in similar situation as OP and decided upon a 75hp FWD tractor with FEL and bucket, rear scrape, and 7ft mower. I still have it and it can do everything I need and then some with the original equipment, but there are conveniences I have added thru the years to make work a little easier and more efficient - grapple, winch, rear grader, and most recently a mini-ex :)

There are times the TN75 is too big, but that is not often - nor are the times it has been too small

The best method to move/haul/process downed logs - rent an excavator that comes with an operator
