Interesting, but as others have said, it is relative. For instance, where do your kids, er, sorry, grand kids live?

Well, I have only lived in three states and they all are in the top 20. Colorado, Utah and Wyoming, I must be living right.

Actually MD and NM tied for 48. I can go anywhere but NY and still be better off...

Looks like we're in the same boat....look at it this way...we could go just about anywhere else and we'll be better off! I haven't decided on how to take this news...

One demographic usually not pointed out about an influx of retirees...is what it can do to traffic issues...
...No offense to anyone but more retirees means more blue hairs and geezers driving slow...:D

While I don't have a lot of experience in Arkansas, I'm shocked that it's number 46. I know a lot of people that have moved from Texas to there, and from what I've seen, they found a really great state to live in. Most are in the mountains, but a few are in the Southern part of the state near the Mississippi River, which is really nice too. If I sell my place, Arkansas is near the top of my list of places to consider moving to.

Thanks Eddie. Arkansas is good and the weather is way above average in the Ozarks. And if your from a news paper and have a Yankee accent. there is considerable joking and tall tales to shock there senses. example Worst sight to see is a U-Haul trailer behind a Northern license on a car.

Texas is almost 1st. cousin status. so many have moved in .

As long as you're happy...that's what matters. No more big cities for me...ever...want some land around me...no close neighbors...couple hours to Cosco is fine with me.

These lists of the best and worst come up quite often. And often as not I have to wonder, has the writer ever been in some of these states in the winter? Or even set foot into more than one locale?

Or, the ratings on health, obesity and/or health care? My "adopted" state for the last ten years, KY, usually rates low in all of the above mentioned areas. I consider the doctors that my wife and I use to be excellent. As for obesity, that may just be a personal choice and not the state's fault? Do excellent pork dishes and/or buffet tables mean that the state is at fault?

I happen to like a cool one or a glass of wine with dinner and my county is dry so I need to drive to neighboring counties but on the other hand, Yuengling just became available this year so not all is bad, lol! Holding my CDL, even if I could have one in a local restaurant, I would not.

Consider your financial situation and how you conduct and relate yourself with others and what your needs are. Personally, I like living where people wave and I do not have to pay taxes on my SS or pension. A traffic jam is when the local McDonald's is backed up into the street.
