I am putting the 3130 up for sale in a couple of weeks so I can get the 5040

Might I ask...

Q: Beyond h.p., what are the differences and/or the advantages of a M5040 over the L3130?

Q: Beyond h.p., what are the differences and/or the advantages between the M-series and the Grand L series?

Q: Is the M-series made for a very specific use [type of farm, certain property size, etc.]?

Many Thanks,
The Gardener

I am definately not a pro on this, but I was told and it was easy to see that the m series is much heavier built as in frame and loader. I will let some of the other guys on here give you a better explanation.

Thanks. That makes perfect sense. I have not driven an M-series nor really even looked at one up close. I saw their size and immediatey concluded that it would cost way too much for me, and I didn't see any reason for such a large tractor on my property - at least initially.

I was stunned by the pricing discussion regarding the M5040 on this thread. That's what caused me to wonder what the M5040 offered since his M5040 price was the same as a Grand L price here in New Hampshire.

Have you found that you are over matching your L3130?

I'd be very interested in knowing what types of jobs you have been doing with the L3130 to see how close they match my expected use of a forth coming Kubota tractor [model still undecided as of now]. Maybe the M-series would be a good choice for our 15 acres and needs.

Thanks!

I just bought the M6040, I use it for bushhogging about 40- 50 acres and doing hay and just having fun doing anything else I find. Tell yourself that your worth getting a great tractor in this life and enjoy it. If your like me, your going to be in debt the rest of your life anyway. You might as well have a nice tractor.

First off, congratulations on the new M6040. That is a dream come true, no doubt. I am very happy for you.

At some point sooner than later we will most assuredly buy a Kubota to help us here on our property. It's a dream of our's as well. They're wonderful machines, and we'll enjoy all that it can do for us.

Do keep us up to date as you discover new ways to maximize your new M6040. I would think the list of possibilities to use a tractor of that stature is unlimited.

Best,
The Gardener

Sorry if this message gets repeated, but the last one seems to have disappeared when i submitted it.

I guess mrlarryj hasn't stopped playing with his new 6040 long enough to tell us how he likes it.

I am looking at the 5040 but could go up to the 6040 depending on price. But the 5040 would serve my purposes. I can't tell from the specs on whether or not it has a rear diff lock, but couldn't imagine it not having one. If it has one, does it also have a front diff lock? Can anyone let me know?

Thanks for the info. I've really been thinking hard about trading in my 2wd Ford 3910 for a comparable size new 4wd tractor. The 5040 is actually lighter than my 3910, so it would be better for trailering also. I've also been looking at the Mahindra 4530, which is heavier but has less hp (35) than I really want. The m5040 appears to be exactly what I need as far as size, weight, and hp. I'm not sure I can afford a new tractor right now, but it is hard to resist once you start thinking about it.

Sorry brbob, you are right I can't make myself get off the tractor. I understand that the 5040 and 6040 have rear diff lock but the 7040 is the only one with the front limited slip. As for the price, the difference between 5040 and 6040 was 1500 for me.
