Re: Best Rear Blade-Monroe-Tufline

Hey Gerard,

Your right on...probably a 7' but maybe even an 8' blade. Since I don't own a back blade, I'm not sure what worth buying. My main issue is going from a standard unit ( weight about 280# ) with manual adjustments to the hydraulic adjustment style ( weight about 825 # ). I know the cost will be proportional to the weight, but is the hydraulic setup overkill for dragging a driveway ? Right now I'm catalog shopping for the Land-Pride RBT4084 or RBT4096.

Anyone have any experience with these ????

Am I asking for too much on the 35 HP tractor ??
Any other recommended mfrs to consider ??
Any other thoughts ??

I don’t think it is over kill to go with the heavier blade on your 35 hp tractor. When it comes to blades, either box or rear, the weight has a lot to do with how good of job it will do. As far as the hydraulics, it is a great convenience to be able to adjust the blade from the tractor but not absolutely necessary. You may want to look for a blade that can except end plates. With an end plate on one side of the blade you can scrape the gravel along the side of the road and get it back into the road rather than going into the ditch. With end plates on both ends of the blade you can move material from one point to another like a box blade. I would look at Woods, Bush Hog, Gannon and of course Land Pride. They all make excellent blades.

MarkV, Does Gannon have a website? I'm still shopping around also. Thanks Kent

Re: Best Rear Blade-Monroe-Tufline

Thanks for asking about rear blades. I also have a TC 21 D and the information on rear blades has been great. It will be very helpful, as I will be buying one very soon.

Banjobj, No problem, but I'm really thankful for the good people on here. They always come through with great answers. I tried the Yahoo group once, when I asked a question about my Wheel Horse. I can honestly say, that I'm still not sure how to use that forum. And you sure don't get the answers as fast. Thanks again to all of you. Kent

Re: Best Rear Blade-Monroe-Tufline

I would try and get as much weight as you can handle with your tractor and billfold. I have been using an old 6 foot blade that I bought used and the only thing I don't like about it is there is not enough weight at times to cut the road I'm grading. The blade just rides on the shale. It works fine most times but if there are pot holes ( and there always are ) it won't cut the grade down enough to get past the pothole. Consequently two days later the pot holes you filled in are back. CHUCK
