2-4-D does not only kill broadleaf weeds...it will also kill your mother in laws azaleas! There are certain shrubs it will kill. Here you see 2-4-D used as Farmingwithjunk pointed out almost totally in winter grain crops. I find it does a very good job if applied properly.

The point on putting the cows there first, and people like to think goats eat everything. To me cows beat goats.

If by native grasses you mean the warm season prairie grasses (big and little bluestem, switch grass, indian grass, side oats gramma), then I don't think you can broadcast the seed. A no-till drill is the preferred seeding method. The seeds of the native grasses are so light and fluffy, that they won't really broadcast.

From what I've read on establishing warms season gresses, eliminating all competition with a Roundup(glysophate) product is an important first step followed by either a no till drilling of seed or plow and disc seedbed prep followed by a conventional drill. 2,4D application is then an important step to eliminate competition once your stand is established.

It can be hard to get them to pass through a broadcast type spreader, but if you can, it will work. I broadcast the following with a lawn type broadcast seeder. Ended up having to rig up a broom stick to help keep things feeding. I agree no-till is probably a lot more easy, but broadcasting is not impossible.

This is what I started with: (well not exactly, I had to clear all the brush to get to this point.)

I don't know much about Oklahoma but if I had your question in Illinois I would contact the University Extension Office or one of the custom crop chemical services. They can give you advice for your area, not what works in other parts of the country. If you go with the custom applicator they can apply what is needed and should guarantee the results. You may not be in an agricultural area so these resources may not be close.

The University of Illinois Extension Office is one thing our current governor hasn't messed with yet, but he still has time....

Thanks
Dan D.
