Best time of year to buy a new truck (F-150) ?

I bought a F150 XLT EcoBoost in July by going to Consumers Reports and ordering their new car invoice price list. One dealer tried to tell me that the prices were not actual invoice prices, so I went to another dealer and he gave me a great deal with no hassles and the prices proved to be spot on.

I am averaging a little over 20 with mostly highway miles and when I towed my 4k lb. tractor on a 16' trailer, I got 18 mpg on the highway.

Love the truck and after test driving both and choosing the EcoBoost, it has not disappointed.

So to answer your question about what time?? Depends on the dealer and how aggresive they are.

You kids today have no idea what it was like when Oldsmobiles ruled the roads...

My mother had a 1983 Old Cutlas when I got my drivers license. That car is what soured me on GM for life. Real piece of junk! I remember my parents went to dealer and bought a new car. Later that day it back to the dealer for the first of many trips to the shop.

I've never seen the "when" make that much of a difference. But the "what" definitely will, "what" being what's on the lot. If you can find a dealer that has several of the vehicle that you want on the lot, in my experience, they'll deal.

Yes my ecoboost sounds like a hover vacuum. So does a jet engine though. LOL. I actually like the whooshing sound when the waste gates open. Another note, I spent 4 years of my life as an aircraft mechanic and wouldn't be able to work on the ecoboost or today's 5.0 if it is anything major. I can remove and replace whatever sensor the computer tells me is bad though.

I like the integrated brake controller. I have 3 trailers with brakes and it will log mileage and economy for each trailer as well as the brake settings.

Another option I love is the rear view camera. No more need for help when backing up to the trailers.

Purchased my first GM car new in '73, a Nova coupe. Third or fourth time I shut the drivers door from the inside the door handle came apart from the assembly. A few days later the drivers door window came out of the track. First time I washed it the paint peeled off the rocker panels. I could go on and on, but just one more thing, at 5 years old the metal top of the DASHBOARD under the windshield was rusting through...

Soured me on GM cars until 1994, when we bought my in-laws '92 98 Regency. Best car we ever had for the money. It was still running strong when we sold it at 134,000 miles ten years later, and the paint on that 12 year old car was better than the paint was on my '73 Nova when it was brand new.

I have a Y2K GMC Yukon XL 2500 now...have replaced drive belts twice, battery twice, plus usual wiper blades, coolant flush and refills, oil and filter changes, air filter, etc. Still has NEVER spent one minute in a shop for ANY mechanical repairs. All original brakes, tires, hoses, oh, I had to replace one passenger window motor. What a lemon it has been...

Well guys, little update. I got home from overseas Wedndesday and test drove the new F-150s on Thursday.

Long story short, I was IMPRESSED with the Ecoboost. I drove a Lariat 4x4 Ecoboost with 3.55 gears and an XLT 4x4 5.0 w/ 3.55 gears.

They didn't have any with 3.73 gears for me to drive. No matter though, the Ecoboost was still the fastest stock truck I have ever drove. I punched it hard at a red light and the rear end cut out sideways at 30mph on dry pavement. :D

The 5.0 was strong, just much higher in the rev range than the 3.5L Eco, it has power right off the bottom and acceleration is effortless. It is miles ahead of the 2005 F-150 I had.

So I started looking hard for deals Thursday and yesterday made one for a 2011 SuperCrew, Ecoboost, white XLT. Decided leather wasn't worth paying an extra 5k for to go to a lariat. The hardest part was finding a deal on one with 3.73 gears. I found the truck down in FL and they came down 10k below MSRP. I feel like I got a great deal. I go pick it up on monday.

So excited, it is the first new truck I have ever bought and I plan on keeping it for a long time.

Can not wait to see it. Wait till you drive one with 3.73 gears versus them 3.55's. Its a beast.
