Best tool to get grass to grow

Somewhat related to this thread but curious do we have anyone who grows sod on here? There are hundreds of acres of sod grown in my neck of the woods (southern NJ). I would be interested to know how far sod is normally shipped. I would think 2 days max. I don't know where all the sod grown in this area goes, but I see them cutting sod every day and shipping off trailer loads to somewhere. There does not seem to be enough new construction to support all the sod grown and about half the time I see them starting from seed with new homes. Where else does sod get used?
