Oh sorry :) :)...

Don't know LarJea?? I inquired about cost and the quoted cost included installation. Again, Barlows, 1200 miles, fuel & food, overnight stay somewhere and I install for $6295 OR local dealer, they install for $7300 (assuming no budge on price). Round trip to barlows I estimate would be $700+ and if my wife goes more :) :)...

No, Lilguy, I was asking for $300 off the quoted price and that they perform a HST/tranny fluid and filter change while the tractor is getting the backhoe attached. Now, I certainly would not balk at a situation in which they threw in the SUDT fluid and filters for me to do the maintenance!!

About 15 months ago I bought my B2620HST, 54" box scraper, RTR1250 tiller and weight box from my dealer. I thought their price was fair and didn't even negotiate; I just agreed and we made the deal. So going to the table on a $7000+ purchase and asking for $300 off the price and a courtesy fluid change, to me, isn't unrealistic. I'll let ya'll know what happens...

Unless your dealer really, really, really likes you, you are asking him to give you $700 out of his pocket. A $300 discount on the BH plus the $400 he'd have made on the service.

I agree with Snobdds to let us know how that works.

So would that mean Brady Barlow would be giving me $1,005 out of his pocket?

It doesn't mean that at all. Barlow's price is only for selling you the BH and does not include installing. Your quote of $7300 from the local dealer includes the complete installation. Do you expect your dealer to sell it at Barlow's price and install it for free.

If you bought at Barlow's for $6295 then paid $700 to go get it yourself you would have $6995 invested. If you want your dealer to sell it for $7K installed then you want him to install it for $705.00 (if he sold it to you at Barlow's price) plus on top of that you still want the value of the $400 service thrown in. Deduct that from his profit and he made $305.

Buying from Barlow's and having your dealer install would end up costing you $7700 including the $700 transportation instead of the $7300.

Good morning...

Yesterday I received from my Kubota dealer a quote of $7300 for a brand new BH65 backhoe, 12" bucket, all inclusive and dealer installed. My counter to that was $7000 and they perform a full HST/hydraulic fluid change including whatever filters are necessary and an oil change and filter.

Wanted to get some thoughts and opinions from the team here on TBN site!!!

Thanks, in advance...

Burgie

The only data point I have is a quote from Barlows, which is 1200 miles from Colorado Springs, for $6295 for the complete BH65 setup, all inclusive. That's the price...then I have to pick it up and install it. Not worried about the installation part but I either pay for shipping or go get it with my F-350 4x4.

As Lilguy stated, it's a negotiation and I'll wait and see if they accept or what they come back with to counter my counter. I don't believe my offer was insulting and my dealer knows me and will respond accordingly. If they can do it fine, if not I'll probably still proceed with the purchase. Everything has a margin associated with it and asking for a 4.1% discount plus a service I don't think is unrealistic. They can always say no...

The delivery cost/expense for you has nothing to do with your dealers profit. The BH cost both dealers the same. So, you can see the profit margin of one dealer over the other. Barlows is not selling it to you for cost, he's making some profit. The dealer aspect is cost to dealer of installing the frame and the dealers cost of fluid and filters and labor for those. If his/her shop isn't that busy and the employees are paid hourly anyway then the cost may not be much. Cost of goods may be dealers only additional cost. Usually the master mechanic doesn't drain and install fluids and screw off and on a filter. Dealers also make some profit on fluid and filters.
Now the additional cost to you for getting it from Barlows changes the make a deal aspect but again doesn't have anything to do with your dealers profit of the sale to you.
Easy to figure the dealer charge for installation and additional above Barlows profit margin of the BH. Throwing in the fluids and filters changes the numbers some with in hand or installed making a slight marginal difference again depending on how busy the lowest paid mechanic on staff is. The figures given for charge to customer of a fluid and filter charge can be considered lost opportunity profit but you may do those services yourself anyway so that number may not apply.
If your local dealer knows your numbers and your having to go pick it up, unless you wait for Barlows to be making a trip to near you which would reduce his cost of delivery to you, then your dealer knows you've got an additional $300 shipping cost to get the BH from Somerset, Ky to you. You don't have to go get it, there are trucking companies coming you direction almost daily that want to bring it to you for a fee.
Oh by the way, I had just priced a BH installed at Barlows a couple of days ago for my nephew and the Kubota BH installed was more than your dealer is asking. He's giving you a good price and it will require an experienced mechanic with some help most of a day to install the BH with frame and hydraulics. If it were Barlows I believe he would just say no to your offer and leave the room. :)

I understand that and everything above...

Update:

BH65 backhoe all inclusive and BH1976 mechanical (manual) thumb installed plus SUDT fluid and filters thrown in for me to perform fluid change: $7600 for the total package.

I'll take that as a sign that they really really like me...

Deal done...

So counting the original price offer of $7300 you got a mechanical thumb, SUDT fluid and filters for $300 more. I guess they do like you.
Congrats.

Taxes are not included but I knew that and rarely are in negotiations...but I am very pleased with the deal and will have a great backhoe installed professionally by the dealer...

I was quoted 8800.00 for the BH 70 on a new B2601. Been working with my local dealer for 25 years. Him, his wife, one other gal and one tech. Said he and the tech would take the majority of a whole day setting it up. I could travel cross county to save a bit but they won't take care of me for the next decade or more. And I'll sit forever while he falls all over himself taking care of those who purchase from him.
