DFB,

It's bigger at 5' than at 2'? That's interesting /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif.
What happens if you go up still further?

This picture was taken for or five years ago? Circumference of the tree- About 30 Feet or more.

Now would that be a Redwood tree on the other side of the Mississippi, /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif and if you have trees like that on your land I wouldn't be surprise if a timber company came knocking on your door.

Just beyond that bulge it branches out with 7 or 8 main leaders. That's what makes me think it might have been intentionally cut before or maybe the main leader just broke years ago. Hey LH, when ya gonna register?

DFB,
Maybe you have a King's tree. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif
Remember the year not to long when the evergreen from Tamworth,NH was donated to the White House lawn, and the loggers came arcoss a big tree w/ graving on it.
Come to find out after studies were made it was mark for the King of England for the mask on his ships, and I believe its still against the law to cut down those trees.

You maybe in a prime location for such a tree. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Thomas by Larry's definition your legal. And for lack of anything else, we can use his.

I did brave the mud and blackberries and mine is 15' 11" around at 4 ft, and 15' 6" at 6 ft. For heigth I would recommend the longest shadow at high noon, but since that dosen't happen in the Northwest until July, maybe something else./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif
I'm holding off on any height measurements until the Redwood and Sequioa votes are cast.

Also I had counted Bird and Ernie out and then I stumbled across this:
