Darn raccoons nearly sunk my boat.

I took 1 stick of gum out of a new pack and put the pack in the glove box of my bass boat. Then promptly forgot about it.

I tied port & starboard sides of the boat to the floating dock and went in for the night. The coons smelled that pack of gum and wanted it. They scratched the dash really bad but they got that pack of gum and managed to flip on the power switch and one of the live-well pumps getting it.

That live-well had a drainage problem so every time I used it, I had to use a toilet plunger to get it to drain.

So with the drain plugged and the pump running overnight, the boat filled up with water and the tie down ropes were still holding it above water but there was a lot of tension on them.

EVERYTHING was wet but luckily no damage other than the claw marks.

Ive been battling Racoons on my feeders lately. Its weird, I went several years with no issues but now they come very night. Ive trapped 4 and relocated them and Ive shot 2 but there is still at least one more that is hanging around. I like to let the wildlife be but man are they destructive.

Speaking of raccoons...we went camping at Roman Nose state park when the Kids were little; we had a sack of groceries sitting in the corner of the tent when we went to bed.

We were awakened at a rattle-rattle sound of a potato chip package; looked over, and the little varmint had chewed a hole in the tent, stuck his paw in, and was pulling bread out of it wrapping and back through the hole. Good thing it was a park and I didn't have a shooting iron!

Raccoons come in cycles, most years we have minimal problems, but 4 years ago we trapped at least one raccoon every day for over 90 days at the chicken coop. Not counting a couple other dozen that were caught in other verboten activity and did not survive the error of their ways. Well over hundred that year, normal is we have remove 4-5 all year long. BTW still no shortage of raccoons here, see them all the time but none that want to eat chickens, yet.
