Bird sells tractor . . . what next!?

Bird, I purchased a MTD (22 HP) because back then it was the only 50" deck I could afford. I mowed 5 acres with it for 3 years until I got my TC29D. Now it just does the trim work and snow plow duty. Perhaps I was lucky, but I had minimal problems with it.

I noticed the new signature - don't fly away.

Good Morning Bird…

Well… since TBN is so overwhelming now… I probably missed reading 1 or 2 posts… /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

What’s up with your tractor and new logo status…?

I bought a Sabre - cheap john deer - with hydro -- and just love it -- easy to work on and runs great - ran me about $1600 which wasn't far off the others-- deck comes off by pulling 4 pins

John, I'm guessing since Bird doesn't have the Kubota, he took it out of his logo. I'm just hoping the flying eagle means he's flying free, and not that he's flying away from TBN!!!/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Don't leave us Bird!!! We need adult supervision, and you're the most reasonable adult on TBN!!!/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Hi Richie...

Well... I've heard the rumors somewhere on TBN... /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Thought... I'd get it straight from the horse's mouth... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Bird, Before I bought my Boomer I bought a Craftsman 15.5HP hydrostat mower with a 42" deck. I mowed my 3 1/2 acre yard with it (which has lots of hills) for 2 years and it held up great! Only problem was it took too long, so that's why I upgraded. I still have it and it still runs great, but it does light duty work now. I just use it to mow up around the house in between the bushes and over the septic tank where can't go with the Boomer. I thought about selling it but it still saves time over a push mower and like having it as a backup if my Boomer or mower breaks down (heaven forbid!). It's not built as heavy as a Toro or something, but should do fine for you.

John, maybe we better get it from Bird's mouth!!! Horses are just rumormongers!!/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

SO c'mon, Bird, put an end to the rumors and give us an update!!

<font color=blue>...Thanks everyone for the suggestions. </font color=blue>

Hi Bird,

You're an incredible asset to this board.. you've given me so many great replies.. I'm very grateful to you.

You are selling your house and moving? Does this mean the riding mower is just temporary, and once you get relocated you will perhaps get another tractor? Sorry if this is too nosy!

One suggestion:

http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/tractor/

These guys live and breathe small ride-on mowers and garden tractors, and might have some good advice for you. When I had my GT235, they were a lot of help.

Now then, I suggest that Bird be made a "Star" member. The only problem is that he is already a Star member. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Muhammad, can you make up a new category? Member Extraordinare? Superstar Member?

I wish you and yours all the best, Bird!

When my father in law bought his MTD at Farm King he was told that "MTD" was an acronym for
<font color=blue>M</font color=blue>urry <font color=blue>T</font color=blue>ractor <font color=blue>D</font color=blue>ivision.

Does anyone know if this is true?

I believe you are correct. One of my son's was asst. manager at a local hardware store that sold MTD products, he told me they were made by Murray then, 2 years ago.

Maybe make a <font color=blue>BIRD</font color=blue> designation, the Class that flies above the rest?

Sorry forgot this. I think it is Modern Tool, and Die.

I was told by a couple of people that MTD stands for Machine Tool and Die. Don't know it for a fact though.

Why is Bird selling his tractor and why is he selling his place? Why on another forum that i spy on did he mention he had been carrying around a brocure for the BX22TLB? Is Bird downsizing his place and therefore his tractor?
I hope that whatever the reason is that it is good and not bad.

Bird, I'm sad that the 2710 is gone. I hope everything is good with your life. I'm among the many who you have assisted greatly with your kind expertise over the past couple of years.

I have a Craftsman with a Kohler 15.5 HP gas engine and its been just fine. Really haven't had any trouble with it and its about 10 years old. Its not a hydro however.

We mowed over an acre with it regularly until a year ago when we moved to the acreage. Now it only gets to mow about 5000 square feet - the rest is done by the 2710.

Wow, guys! Lots of messages posted after I left this morning. Getting to be so many I don't know how to keep up./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions about the mowers. My brother and I went to town this morning, visited Lowe's, Home Depot, Sears, and two other lawn and garden places; looked at Yard Man, Cub Cadet, Scotts, Troy Bilt, Murray, White, and some others I've already forgotten, but wound up buying a Craftsman that says "LTX 1000" on the side of it; 21.5 hp Briggs & Stratton V-twin, hydro, 42" cut, and beer . . . er, cup holder. Seemed like the most bang for the buck, but only time will tell. Regular $1899, on sale for $1,599 (minus $100 mail in rebate).

Thanks again for all the kind words and suggestions. And yep, two people made good suggestions for different changes to my signature, since I sold my tractor and implements, so I changed it./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
