Yeah, gotta wonder about that Honda. I change my car and truck oil (gasoline motors) regurlarly and it takes a few hundred miles before it begins to darken slightly and about six to ten thousand miles before it gets black. Don't usually let it go that far. I'll relax about the tractor oil and change it early next Spring.

If you are going to let your tractor set over the winter, it is best to change the oil this fall. The contaminants in the oil can cause corrosion to the internal parts of the engine.
I always change the oil in my boat engines (they are gas) just before it is stored for the winter. This helps to stop internal corrosion.

You are absolutely right. I just schedualed my 21ft, Alaskan bulkhead, GlassPly for its winterization. Need to do the same for the Yannie. I got too many motorized pieces of equipment. I don't suppose a horse would be any easier. I've got thoes too. Think I'llget a divorce and buy a condo.

Like most dealers, with the tractors I sell, all the fluids (oil & filter, coolant, trans.) are changed as soon as I receive them. That way the new owner has a starting point for the maintenance schedule. You should probably do the same for yours. Its cheap insurance.

i "had" a jd 2240, the fuel pump went bad and dumped diesel into the oil pan; no sure how long i had run the tractor before i found the problem, no very long, but i had just changed oil, and the oil was really black prior to this happening; anyway, i checked the oil after shutting the engine down a day or so later, and the oil was way way over full, so i drained it into a 5 gal bucket, and it obviously had a lot of diesel in the oil; so i changed the fuel pump, and changed the oil again, filter and all; the oil never turned black in that tractor again; i kept it about another year before selling it, but it never used any oil and the oil stayed as clean looking as the day it was changed.

JwJimbo,
Would you know how many filters are on a YM2200, the types and where they're located, so I can change them?
I changed the engine oil and oil filter, also the tranny fluid and cleaned the strainer, but I'm wondering what others need to be changed or cleaned, if there are others?

Thanks,
Jim

DancingGator Farm:
The other two obvious ones are the air filter, and fuel filter. Depending on the model, you may have a hydraulic filter on the hydraulic return line. Most of the filters have wix or napa crosses.
