Read lots of post and seen lots of threads about putting Hooks on loader buckets.
But nothing much if anything about doing the same with front blades.
Anybody done this ?
Any ideas suggestions.?

Thinking about adding 1 or 2 to this .

Why? It can not have that much lift and you have all the other tractors with things like Backhoes and FEL that you can put hooks on.

hey whether it lifts much or not, it would be better than using your back to lift. It could be used for pulling also. Just put them where you would think they would be most useful. zman

*Matter of convience.
1*I'm thinkin for dragging not lifting.
2*Hooks on the blade would save having to shut this one down and running to dig out one ot he other tractors then putting the other tractor back in the building when done with it .

3*Hay Ya got it.
4*I just never read or seen any one one here who had put hooks on a front blade or a back blade either for that matter.
Just thought it would be interesting to hear from anyone who might have done it.
Anybody else got anything to share.?

Pulling in reverse is not a good idea. I know we all do it, myself included. The problem is it put a tremendous load on the front axle and if the item is very heavy will transmit all the load to the front axle leading to failure. The put the draw bar on the rear for a reason.

pulling with the hooks on the front blade would not be all that much different than with hooks on a FEL would it ?

No, pulling from the FEL causes the same problems. I only lift with my FEL now that I know better.

Why don't we help him get what he's looking for instead of making him feel bad about what he wants to do?

LB, They make front hooks with 2 holes drilled in the mounting flange so you can mount them with bolts to your blade so you don't have to weld. I've never seen anyone do it on a plow blade, but I'm sure it could be done.

Won't be able to pull stumps with it, but you could drag some things backwards to save the lower back from injury. Just be sensible or turn the tractor around and use drawbar if it's real heavy. ;)

LBrown59: I see NOTHING wrong with your idea, maybe because I've been there and done that. I just welded some hooks on my dozer blade infact. Made a great weight for falling trees with a winch{long cable}. Just hooked the winch cable to the hook on the blade and went to work. I also figure the blade has enough lift that if I need to move a log or something I can just chain it, lift and go.

If you weld them on - be sure and keep them INLINE with your loader's arms. It is the strongest location. Welding on outside corners is not recommended - you need to keep the load centered or you could risk twisting your loader, especially if the load shifts.
