So far this has been a nigtmare, first the frost plug fell inside the block before I could catch it (I did recover it after some hard work+bad words)now I find that i do not even have the clearance I need to even install the heater element in the flange. Can anyone give me some suggestions or tell me what part that is in my way? Oil came out when I removed the black bolt? (see pic)

What tractor is this?
It looks like you are on the left side of the engine.
On my 2210, the block heater went in the right side......

4010, it is the right side that I am working on right above the oil filter. I belive the part I am looking at (the one thats in the way)is the governer. The dealer shows a part that wil replace the cover with a flat one, see this site web page

But what happens to the long bolt?

Can anyone tell me what will happen when I replace the bolt\cover (governor?) with the plate only for clearance issues with the frost plug?

chliansh,

I do not know what the difference is between the location of the frost plug, and installation of the block heater on a 2210 vs. 4010. However, the webpage/instructions and pictures you posted are for a 2210. Are you sure your dealer gave you the correct heater kit? Perhaps the motor/layout is the same but, if you have a part that is interfering with the new heater, my guess is wrong kit, wrong instructions...??? I've installed block heaters on numerous vehicles (cars, trucks, ...). It has always been a relatively straight forward process if I had the correct kit. I'd re-check with the dealer and with J.D. service if needed to be sure you're not fighting a no-win battle with the wrong part.

Good luck,

Tom

chliansh,

I just checked J.D.'s 4010 parts ("Block Heater" (Optional)) and it appears you have the right part number. Guess I don't know why you run into an obstruction. Hope some one else can provide guidance.

Good luck,

Tom

I have installed block heater in 2210. Here's the web page

Even on the 2210 you must install the heater element into the adapter then install on engine. You may or may not need the governor case cover. On 2210 their's no need for it. From your picture I can not tell the distance from the cover to block heater. Take out the adapter and install the heater element into the adapter and then see if you can install it on engine. I hope this help a little.

cliansh,

Let me know if you're still stumped. I have tomorrow (Thurs.) off and will be near my dealer. Up here, they install block heaters on most every CUT and full size they sell, so I'm pretty sure they'd have run into the issue and know the solution.

Still stuck, I did talk the dealer into contacting JD directly but they said it will take a couple of days to hear back. This whole thing is way more complicated then it should be.
