Block heater or in line coolant heater for my BX2230

Although Washington never really sees the cold that many see, I found it pretty effective to use battery maintainers in both tractors and dump truck. You have to spin them fast to get the heat in the cylinders. I have drop cords off the barn ceiling where they park that attach easily. I also pull the fuel stop manually and crank it for about 5 seconds then release the lever to allow fuel to the cylinders while cranking.

+1 on the battery maintainers. I use the little sealed Deltran units on _everything_. Always get a good strong crank no matter how long a rig has been sitting.

Watch out removing the freeze plug. There was a thread last year about someone who drilled out the plug and put a whole into a cylinder. My 3350 has a screw in heater and when it’s below zero it starts right up with about an hour of heat. A thought about your hard start in mild weather....have you used power service on your fuel? You might have water that is causing hard starting and power service or something like that might help.
Thanks, I've been using PRI-D additive in my diesels for years and works great. I'm now thinking I might have a "tired" glow plug??

I read the title of this thread and got thinking. I've never had issues with my glow plugs assisting my BX2200 starting. I've started it on -30F days no problem. I cycle them twice for 25 seconds when it's that cold. It starts right up too first shot!

You must have a tired glow plug or you aren't holding that key to "glow" long enough.

Just as a preventative measure, I put new glow plugs in my tractor 3 years ago, and still starts the same way we bought it many years ago. I kept the old glow plugs and cleaned them up. Now I got 3 that are spares.

Quick search says that the part number for the BX2230 block heater is 70000-00771. Looks like it has 25mm or 1 inch threads per the pictures.

NOTE: I do NOT know first hand that this fits your tractor though.

70000-00771 is the model that i installed in my BX25. FWIW the installation document indicates that it also fits BX2230.

installation document is HERE

i too started my block heater search online and found conflicting information. decided to just call messick's. they set me up with the right heater right away and it was in stock. my brief install experience is HERE.

I know this is goofy but on super cold day I just took a little portable heater to bottom of the oil pan for about half hour and it really works. Oil is hot flows better starts immediately.

I have had both.... the inline when new it worked great. When it failed it tripped a GFI everytime. I had it replaced with one in the block, it does the job but takes longer to heat up

GFI's and block heaters are just asking for trouble.
If it rains or some snow melts at any connector 'POP' goes the GFI.
As me how I know!

Not the GFI's fault, it is just doing its job but it can be frustrating on a cold snowy morning.

I am permanently plugged in and have installed a wireless remote control like we use to start our cars in winter.
Usually I switch the heater on 1-2 hrs B4 blowing snow. (Like when I put the coffee pot on the stove)
Most box stores sell them in the $20. or so range.

Even if it isn稚 listed here . They will have something generic that will fit and function 100%

Even if it will start without preheating. I like saving fuel by not idling to warmnup. The reduction of cold start wear . The reduction of starter and battery wear . And the instant heat to the windshield defroster .
