I have the auxiliary heater in my CT225. What is the appropriate use for this when cold starting? Plug it in an hour ahead of time? I would guess you wouldn't want it to be plugged in all the time when not using.

If you're not worried about paying for the power you could leave it plugged in all the time. It won't do any harm. At a minimum I would plug it in 3 or 4 hours prior to use to let the heat move throughout the entire block.

I use mine 1hr before I'm ready to start on coldest days.

Thanks for the feedback. I will probably just plug it in when I get home from work and plow after dinner. Fortunately, the tractor will be right next to me in the garage. I also hooked up a battery conditioner to keep the juice flowing. Gotta love the Northwoods!!!

On my last diesel, I bought a programmable timer from the hardware store. Depending on my schedule & snow forecast, I would just have it come on 1-2 hours before plowing. Worked great.

Just remember to unplug the cord before you pull out......don't ask how I know

Make sure that you get a timer that can handle the heater's wattage. Don't ask how I know.

The time required for heating outside may vary according to wattage of heater, mass of tractor that is heated, ambient temperature and the prevailing wind.

Plug it in and do a hand check for warmth on the block. This may be one way to determine the amount of time required for your situation.:D

Is the block heater standard equipment? If so where is it located? Has anyone had cold starting problems? Mine has been a bugger to start as of late. Been about 10F lately.
