Blocking mouse access?

Steel wool seems to work well at my house. Use a lot of it and tuck it in tightly. A couple of times I have noticed that a mouse (or something) had pulled out some of the wool from the cracks. That's why I now add a little extra and shove it in tightly with a small stick. Perhaps the mice were trying to get out instead of in.

Mice! I've caught 6 mice in my house this winter so far. I've never had mice before for well over a decade and even then it was just a couple since I bought the place in 1981. I have no idea where they all came from.

The first time I saw the first one of the bunch, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me in my old age and I was seeing things. That happened a couple of times and then finally I got a good look at the little fellow. I set out an old fashioned "snap trap" and soon ended his life. Made me kinda sad in a way, poor little mouse didn't mean anyone any harm and was just trying to find a cozy winter home. After that I caught another, then another! Even managed to catch one alive in a plastic grocery bag he was raiding. Altogether I ended up with six of them and I hope that's the last I ever see of them in the house.

Steel wool, spray foam and then perhaps some fine (1/4" mesh) hardware cloth stapled to the wall as backup.
