My place is full of this, I have a hay field that is currently under water, this clay fell off the tractor tires and it sure is blue. Maybe I'll dig a pond and sell the stuff to the local potters

I had the same thing happen to me.

I don't think its native blue clay, though. I think your clay "pulls" some coloring out of the rubber of your tires.

I've got a layer of strange VERY green clay here. I sent a sample to my GF's sister to see if she wanted some to make pottery from. She said it wasn't suitable for pottery making.

I have red clay, brown clay, grey clay, black clay and yellow clay. It's in different areas, and in differenent layers. I can start out with red clay on the surface, then hit one of the other colors as I dig down. I also have pockets of sand and iron ore.

Blue is a new color, but with what I've seen so far, it doesn't suprise me.

Let's see, iron oxide is red, copper oxide is green, and now, what is blue? Oh yea, cobalt, wonder if you could be playin' 'round with radioactive materials? Have you checked to see if it glows in the dark!!? Just kidding. LOL :D

All the dirt/clay around here is blue. They say it's from the limestone or something. Even the rocks have a blueish cast when you bust them open.

There's a ton of that stuff in my yard. Where it's at the surface, grass doesn't even seem to grow in it. I've been building my compost piles to hopefully amend the soil where I'll be planting. We'll see what happens next spring.
